Arne Slot - Head Coach (Part 2)

The constant Klopp comparisons are getting to him. Understandable on a personal level, but probably not very wise to say out loud (even in that indirect passive aggressive way).

I’ve totally gone off him. He could say the sky is blue on a sunny day and I’d probably get irritated that he’s just opened his mouth.

Yeah its why I am not that sympathetic to the arguments about there being mitigating factors explaining our failures because that ignores that a big part of the concern with Slot is how poorly he has responded to the set backs. Far too much of it has been defensive and attempts to CYA, which significantly undermines what little effort he’s made to protect the players from fire, players for whom the mitigating circumstances are at least as relevant to their performances as they are to Slot’s. That sort of leadership is toxic and predicts the bad outcomes we’re seeing.

That’s kind of the problem, isn’t it? Everything he says is going to be treated in bad faith, because at this point it’s more the messenger than the message.

I’ve found some of the stuff that annoys people quite minor and nothing really to get upset about. But then I’m not as pissed if at him as some of you are.

Well he’s brought it on himself, hasn’t he? A lot of the the things he’s said has been ill conceived and he’s not learned from that in the slightest hence we’ve reached this point. It’s the situation with Rodgers repeating itself.

As I’ve told you over and over again, this is an awfully disrespectful way to engage with people’s opinions. Whether you agree with people or not does not make a clearly articulated and specific criticism bad faith or one made reflexively.

I like the guy and grateful for the part he played in the unbelievable scenes this time last year.

There definitely is an edge that has set in where multiple times he has alluded to us not being good in previous seasons. It’s the opposite to how effusive he was in his gratitude to Jurgen last year. He would always have thanked him for the squad anytime he was being praised.

Maybe just sign of the pressure and abuse (if he looks online) getting to him

Bah, why are we even discussing? His fate is sealed, and all the nails firmly in his coffin. Like or dislike him, he won’t survive this summer.

He’s reasonably upbeat about his prospects. Good for him! It’s not a big deal. If anything, it seems like a confident Dutch sort of viewpoint to hold.

Crucially, it’s not up to Arne Slot, so let’s see what happens.

He’s just stated that he’s been part of the discussions about the summer tour and the transfer targets. That doesn’t sound like someone who is on his way out.

Unless he’s embellishing the truth, or even worse, fabricated the whole thing.

I mean, Slot just doesn’t understand why Klopp was afforded more grace than he is. It’s not just about wins and losses. It’s about performances. It’s about energy, passion, excitement, and a sense of identity. It’s about connecting with the culture of the club and it’s supporters.

All of those things were present even during the worst of Klopp’s era. There’s a sense that all of this is being lost now.

And, also, Jurgen never lost 18 matches in a single campaign.

Or maybe he was interviewing from Amsterdam? lol

Probably 22-23 when we only got Europa League qualification. Pearce and Joyce have also referenced that season as a stick to beat Klopp with.

What he means is…
Up Shit Creek like every LFC fan out there if he stays

Bad faith is the wrong choice of phrase on my part. I didn’t mean it in the way you were saying.

What I meant was that I think for a lot of fans at this point are just ready to take a negative view of him, regardless of his words. As @wyld.at.hrt said, at this point if he said the sky was blue he would be annoyed.

Every time I think the tide has turned, the reliable journos all come out and say he’s going nowhere.

That’s a level of self awareness for my own personal Liverpool journey with Slot at the helm. Not the ā€˜aha!’ moment you think it is.

I’m not sure I was suggesting that it was an aha moment. I was just reflecting that for a lot of you it’s gone way beyond what he says.

For a lot of fans on some comments, sure. It is why your above it all comments back as early as September that no one should care what he says in public were so misguided because this was always the direction of travel for someone who said questionable things in his public comments and didn;t learn from it.

But beyond that, you use that as your stock response no matter what criticism of his comments are. No matter how well articulated. That is dismissive and disrespectful because there can both be an air of ā€œfuck that guyā€ at the same time as it being well earned from a serious of bad public appearance that undermine his status of a leader of a group.

That’s literally exactly what you just jumped on, let’s not assume otherwise
