Next Liverpool Manager

Still much better than what happened last year

Ja if Slot stays I’ve got a bad feeling about the direction of our play. He’s been on about Arsenal, set piece stats etc. Wouldn’t surprise me if he thinks that’s the way to go. He got fixated on PSG as well and seems to be a reactive coach.

I’ll caveat that with it just being a vibe on my part.

From the other thread:

Apparently, Etienne Reijnen who held the post of ā€œVideo Analyst & Adviser Technical Staffā€ wasn’t so effective to RVP who had a rocky season at Feyenoord that RVP had to ask Dick Advocaat to give crucial tactical and strategic advice to him for the final stretch of the season. Feyenoord dropped from 1st to 2nd and stayed their ever since with a 19 points gap from the top of the table.

Yes, I saw the post but I think you are jumping to conclusions too early. Advocaat has close links with Feyernoord and has done similar supporting roles before. He also has a close relationship to RVP.

RVP is a very inexperienced manager who has had to contend with a series of injuries to the side. Advocaat criticised him earlier this year for some of the comments he was making in public about the players.

I haven’t seen any online articles suggesting that Advocaat’s role is because of any failure on Reijnen’s part. If the latter’s role has been confined largely to set pieces then he’s done his job and the wider issues are not as a result any failure on his part.

We’ll just have to wait and see what his role here is and whether we see an improvement.

Damn it, was too busy trying not to be sexist with ā€œright hand menā€ I missed the handedness. I’ll delete my account now.

Said it all season. There isn’t a single original thought in that man’s head. He isn’t alone in this among Premier League managers.

But how did he win the league?

Just bring in Tony Pulis. Fucking hell his excuses are tired. We bought technical players but this season the game has changed and set pieces are in. So are we just going to ask if we can get a refund on Wirtz, Frimpong, etc?

And remember, Briggs was our analyst before being promoted set to set piece so after he was fired we ended up losing our well rated analyst

Has Reijnen signed? If he has, Slot is here for next season. If he hasn’t, then maybe it’s a case of ā€œThis is the path we will go down IF we are retaining Slotā€ but the fundamental decision about Slot has not been taken yet.

Maybe with Henry in town for the last game there will be a meeting. I know he is not hands on in that way, but the suits will report to him, and surely there will be a decision about Slot. If he stays, help him with signings, such as a winger or two, and also Reijnen.

If he goes, it will be swift and a new man will be installed.

Crazy to think it might still be up in the air.

Is he?

This is my feeling, most journalists are now saying there is a review. Which wasn’t the case a fortnight back.

No and its interesting that there is a notable difference in the framing of this among some of the journos. Looking to vs considering. I think the broader point you make explains why that distinction is important. A huge part of my job is going to lengths to ā€œconsiderā€ options we’re pretty sure we’re not going to take, but its important you turn over every stone before jumping to the option you were already leaning towards. Is this simply part of the exploration of what it would take to give Slot an opportunity to turn it around, the existance of which does not demonstrate a commitment to doing it? Or is this a real committed step we’ve already decided to take?

We’ll probably know within about 36 hours

It’s an assumption on my part, to be fair.

I know we don’t see a lot of him, but I was thinking he would come and take in the last game, get the ā€˜feel’ of the crowd for himself, and also have a key meeting or two.

If he doesn’t come, it might indicate a few things. Maybe the decision on Slot is already made? Maybe a review has already been done? Maybe he is even less hands on because a sale is on the cards? Who knows!

But I’m thinking he will be here. Could be wrong, let’s see.

It’s one of the games he usually takes in if I remember.
