It would have been Virgil regardless , but after last night when he was showing Grav the love and Gakpo was playng a blinder , it made me think just how important the whole Dutch thing along with the boss has become. The three of them are playing out of their skins atm and it would be horrible to jeopardise that with Virgil leaving. We could be on the brink of something special and our number four is at its heart.
Virgil clearly wants to stay, the other two aren’t doing much to convince us they want to so it’s an easy answer.
I understand your view but it just goes on to show just how great he is (at least up to this point) that we say that he’s lost a yard of pace, yet he’s still THE centre back in modern football and that we can’t even begin to contemplate what our defence would look like without him - and we’ve been in that place for almost a year, unfortunately.
To be honest, I don’t think he’s lost much of that pace but even that loos wasn’t due to injury, in my opinion, but due to age and Slot’s tactics have been such that opponents haven’t been able to expose that loss of pace just yet. Long may it continue.
I think we can keep all three, or at least retain two of them.
(No idea how to actually answer, torn bewteen Mo and Virg)
If my granny had balls.
Hypothetically she’d be my grandad.
Something else I had no control over
Has Mo ever said anything? Even his gobby agent shut down talk.
If your granny had have balls, he’d /she’d they’d have been VERY modern……
I would keep Trent - Simply because his journey has many miles still to travel, with tales to amass over the coming seasons…
"Corner Taken Quickly… ORIGiiiiiiiiiii " :0)
As painful as the divorce would be - VVD + MO could be replaced (eventually)
Purely down to footballing matters it has to be Virg, the way he plays he conserves energy, never looks flustered and in the mind of the attacker they are beaten before they walk on the pitch and I feel he still has many more years to play.
Mo is Mo, will score goals and get assists but this will gradually wain as he has already lost some pace and his sharpness will follow.
Trent, as many have said, I think where he plays and the effect on our team, his place is the easiest to find a solution if he leaves, but Trent and what he offers is like all 3, irreplacable.
Also, when Mo was out over the Christmas period 23/24 didn’t we perform better and I think that has happened a few times when he has been away with his national side.
When Virg was injured how did that go?
I rest my case
All 3 are key players of our most successful era in the PL. But if I had to choose, it’s VVD. You can replace a player but leadership is a rare commodity.
I went with Trent, although I value Virgil higher than him in terms of importance for the team. But being much younger, Trent can still stay ten years or more with us, while Virgil is in the two or three last years of his career at top level.
I absolutely love Mo and what he brings to the club, but he too hasn’t too many years left in him at top level.
So, it’s Trent for me.
In my opinion, Virgil is in the Zidane level of being a player other top pros look at think “fuck sake he is good.” I think the difference in quality among top players is typically far less than assumed and it is very rare that any player at a top club would look at a player at another club and have a sense of inferiority to them. Virgil is one of the very few guys, maybe only 2 or 3 are around in any generation, who gets viewed like that. He is the wrong side of 30, but he’s still there and will likely still be for a while. People say he has lost a yard of pace but I see no evidence of it. I think a lot of that comes from his languid looking style, where he has always managed to cover an absurd amount of ground without looking like he is trying. I see no evidence of players being able to outrun him.
Trent. He’s younger than all of them and @cynicaloldgit.
Poor Helix
Meh. He’s got the jokes thread to keep him happy.
Everybody is younger than COG.
This is what makes you a phenom at what you do
Easy question without a correct answer. All 3 have been integral. 2 of them are legends, while the younger one is well on his way there.
The only answer that makes sense is all of them.
