I think I’ve been really clear across a few posts that I share that view.
I think Slot and Hughes bear enormous responsibility for going into to the season understocked, and I think the pair of them are guilty of totally underestimating the direction of the league and the extent to which it would bend to their genius. Slot simply did not have enough quality, especially in the wide areas, and I don’t believe for a second that Slot wasn’t part of this decision making.
Agree with everything you says about getting more bodies in and being understaffed is a guaranteed way to fail in the PL. I’d take you up on the notion that the style Slot implemented was borne out of conserving rescources though. Remember, he instigated the style shift at the end of the previous title winning season when he was under no pressure. He then watched as his ideas clearly failed to produce results but refused to change back to what was proven to work. He could have brough Elliot back to make up numbers and played Trey more but instead stubbornly insisted on shunting players into positions where they were ineffective.
Yeah, that’s fair enough. I would point out though that Slot wouldn’t be the first manager to feel themselves under pressure and recourse to his trusted lads, even playing them out of position. I seem to remember Jurgen getting himself in a pickle playing lads out of position as injuries wrecked his title defence season, before he just played Philips and Williams, and salvaged a Champions League place.

Liverpool wouldn’t be generously offering to top up his salary. That’s stupid.
This will be an expression of the legal terms for his departure, and it’s quite common when paying off senior contracted appointments.
If Liverpool paid him to depart - essentially the value of the remaining year of his contract, but the full value of that would only be activated if he remains out of work. If he takes another job, then his new salary would bring down the amount we agreed to pay him. So yeah, Liverpool would in effect be topping up his Netherlands salary, but it would be less than we’d be paying him to sit on his arse all year.

Time waits for naught sadly. In my mind I’m still that 10
year old first supporting Liverpool desperately hoping to see my first title win. The mirror, wife and now having kids of my own starting that journey tells me otherwise. Supporting Liverpool I realise I have been blessed to see every trophy worth winning claimed by this club. The Arne title win sits right near the top - probably fourth, perhaps third - of those memories and also allowed us the celebration we missed in 2020. I’m glad he’s gone - I’d even have liked him removed earlier - but he’ll always have a special place in the pantheon for number 20 which will now always be a precious number for the club. Would be great to see him welcomed back in due course and given a ditty.

I’ve actually developed a kind of PTSD by now; every time Mascot posts here, I immediately get scared that he’s going to tell us again that Slot definitely won’t be fired, or something like that. That’s going to haunt me forever.
