Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

There are times to do it and times not to. A good examples of Slot adjusting for the opposition and getting it absolutely spot on was the game against City - the one with the brilliant cut back corrner goal - where he changed the system, played with something like two false nine’s and totally out thought Pep.

But once your whole identity becomes chasing after what you think the opposition are going to do, regardless of the opposition, that’s a problem.

Really depends on how much Slot wanted to change the playing style.

We didn’t get him the CDM that was needed, Zubimendy etc. and teams were beginning to play through our double pivot way too easily. Then came the tragedy of Jota. Where the players were not in the right frame of mind to deal with it.

As Robbo said , the players had lost their edge for that season. And it went predictably down hill from there for Slot. When players didnt have 100% of their mind on football , then it’s always going to be a disaster.

But, Slot left us in very bad shape though and the breakdown of relationship with Mo is surely on him. Never once in Mo’s career has he had a bad relationship with any of his managers. Even someone like Mourinho who didn’t treat Salah right was always friendly with him.

It was one thing for Klopp to come in and fix the mess Rodgers had left us with. And a totally different thing that Iraola has to come in and fix Slot’s mess. We spent so much under Slot in his second season.

That was probably the best episode of the whole series.

I think this is a bit of a history rewrite when it came to Mo.

When time inevitably caught up with Mo, and it was necessary to take him out of the team, or even just reduce his minutes, whoever needed to make that decision was always going to get both barrels from Mo. The lad has an ego the size of a planet, and he believes he should be first name on the team sheet come what may. He once, in public, tore an absolute strip off Klopp for starting him on the bench. There will be fire, and all that.

And the near consensus amongst fans was that Salah should not be in the team. It was killing us. At the time Slot benched him, and prompted the fall out, people had been calling for it for weeks.

Slot had to take him out of the team. And that was always going to end up messy.

Yup that away European game where he had that hissy fit is often missed in this discussion.

I really don’t understand the dislike for Slot and the constant deriding comments at his expense. It’s like he insulted someone personally or something.

1 title in 2 seasons. Then a rebuild (under Iraola) was needed. Saying not bad at all would be an understatement. He did well for us but got lost and wasn’t the way forward anymore.

That’s it. It’s not like he didn’t give his best and that he didn’t want to win or not. He simply wasn’t good enough or the right person to turn it around.

He wasn’t a very likeable person, he said and did things that rubbed fans up the wrong way, unintended or not. I could easily conjure up 10 reasons off the top of my head if I wanted to.

We don’t want to think of any manager priviledged enough of taking charge at this club as giving anything but their best…that’s a common ground they should (& have to) share.

It’s what he turned us into that is disliked. Then people’s tendency to blame one person or group and make it personal.
I think his approach and methods were flawed. From the off the small group mentality for the EPL, Europe and other cups was criticised. It went well at the start however well before we met PSG in March of his 1st season the bubbles were bursting.

I don’t dislike Slot. But as i said before. And i will say it again. Slot won with Klopps team and mentality. As soon as Slot started putting his imprint on the team. And then brought in his players, the team faltered.

I understand players wanted to leave. But had we kept the same team and kept our identity established under klopp. That is a pressing team. And a tweak or two to the roster. We would of had a better title defense.

Unfortunately Iraola has to reverse the damage done. And make it work with the roster he was given.

Every manager who takes over a team- the team becomes his, period!
There is no such thing as won with Klopp’s team..

He won with his team, his selection, his tactics, his adjustments, his motivational talks, training, etc…

If he had lost in that first season would you say he lost with Klopp’s team?

Enough of this rubbish. We have a new manager who is steadily rebuilding the team…

Luckily for us all, you weren’t around when B. Rodgers was around… or Hodgson. :joy:

My take on Slot is simple: he was decent, but was shown up when he had to reconstruct something else because players were wanting to leave, or getting older. While he was quite brilliant during his first season, his new system in season 2 didn’t work out at all. So, his dismissal was entirely legitimate.

We move on, I wish him the best wherever he lands as long as it isn’t Cheaty, the red mancs, Chelsea or Everton. :joy:

Agreed.

Few managers are good at all types of scenarios. Given the right setup for him, a manager (just like a player) can display brilliance and that’s what Slot did in the first season.

He won us no20 and he will always be appreciated for that.

The second season things changed partly because of circumstances and partly because of forward planning. The planning didn’t go as expected and Slot’s idea of the re-jigging of the team and tactics was found to be ill suited for the league. And he was rightly let go.

The second should not affect the importance of the first. Two things can be true at the same time.

He had a difficult second album so to speak. We then decided to split.

Away win at Yanited

Home and away double against the cheats.

Even the Newcastle away was exciting until Kelleher let in that last one.

Demolished all comers in Europe. Lost a tight second leg against PSG. I still think if Trent doesn’t go off injured we win, he was starting to pick holes in their defence.

I also liked that he got pissed off at Goodison.
