I’ve said over and over again that these players look mentally shot. They look so, so fragile. That might be Slot’s fault. It might be that we’re being let down by players who should be better than this. It might be that we’re struggling to deal with the huge amount of squad churn. It might be the fucking set piece coach (who seems to escaping a fair bit of criticism for our total inability to defend a set piece) is utterly clueless. It might be an understandable reaction to the awful circumstances of the summer. The likelihood is that it’s all those things to a greater or lesser extent.
Nothing about this is self evident from the scraps of information we have at our disposal as fans. We see a tiny, tiny bit of the picture.
The problem is have with @The-AllMightyReds is that he has a hammer and therefore every problem looks like a nail.
Mo Salah still starting games? Slot is clueless get him out.
Mo Salah upset at being dropped? Slot is clueless get him out.
If that’s the case will Mr. Edwards/Hughes sell him to a direct rival like City or Arsenal or even Chelsea ? Or will you be alright if he is sold to any of these ?
Or have a bit of a doubt that this may come back to bite you if he storms up the league with City ?
If that’s the case…he is still the best player you have. It’s not like players become bad overnight. They need to be given a proper platform to perform.
For me, a coach should always be a mix of success and humanity/team leadership. And I’m really bothered by how poorly he utilizes the squad, the coldness he shows towards the substitutes, and the constant reliance on his favorites, no matter what. I brought this up weeks ago; you can get away with that kind of thing when things are going well, but in a crisis, these traits obviously become one of his biggest weaknesses, and things escalate when players don’t feel valued or like part of the group. As we say here… “Nun haben wir den Salat”… now we’re in a mess.
But that’s somewhat self-inflicted due to a lack of tact and poor man management skills.
Would love to see him as manager especially if losing , he’d be on here saying he should be sacked as he’s clueless whilst the match was still playing…and then doing press conferences talking about we played well etc
Im fine with any option…simply because lets be honest Mo didnt make liverpool , we made him the player he is, i guarantee you wherever he goes , he will not reach the same level as he did here.
It’s Hughes first policy we are living in.
As I said a couple of posts ago, we need a bit of player perspective here .
What options did he have left if he was being conspired to be sold to fund new signings.
He either went silently or because he loves this place and wanted to finish his career here, he would rather be willing to tarnish his legacy but try and stop the sale somehow.
Something is obviously rotten behind the scenes and for me Hughes must go …if Slot departs.
The Gakpo/Diaz/Ngumoha thing to me looks like a bit of a disconnect between Hughes and Edwards.
I totally get not signing a Diaz replacement if the club believe that Rio is ready or nearly ready. But Slot’s refusal to give him any meaningful minutes suggests that he doesn’t agree with this.
100%
Any of those clubs would take him without question. Lets be honest here, his form dropped because of circumstance, not because he turned a certain age and can be sent to the glue factory. On Wednesday night he put a few decent moments together, made us look a threat at times. Whatever the outcome of this fuck fest, Salah is still a pretty valuable player.
Slot should have done a Glasnser and kicked off about the sale of Diaz.
Jack who you hounded out of the forum made the point the handling of the wide areas was negligence and its right. A club of our status relying on a 18 year old and Chiesa who simply isn’t trusted as option is poor.
The calls for Slot to go came before he finally decided to drop Mo, so nothing changes now he’s finally been left with no option to do so, not interested whether he’s dropped Mo because of form or because he has an issue with him, and I’m certainly not using Mo being upset at being dropped as a reason for wanting Slot out.
I think the Guehi thing had been negotiated well in advance, but Palace acted, unexpectedly, in bad faith. We also bought another centre back, but he had a season ending injury in his first game.
Add to that, we bought two full backs. Kerkez is taking time to settle, but Frimpong has had a succession of injuries which couldn’t have been predicted given his near perfect recent history.
I think you are absolutely right about the defenders, but we did try to sign a whole new back four.
