And he will more often than not cut a repoter short if it’s about contracts and the like.
I kind of miss Klopp’s philosophical put downs, which would make a Nietzschean aphorism sound glib.

What a terrible take.
Yes I made up my mind on Slot (that’s since the United loss) and I don’t think I will change. I see to many negative things - and I highly doubt time and more transfers will fix them.
But i’m not stupid and I fully expect Slot to be here until his contract expires in 2027. Like I said - the owners won’t sack him as long as he finishes in the Top5 (CL qualification)
Our team structure is super unbalanced
. Every team needs a defensive line with 3 players, but our fullbacks are more suited to attacking. Kerkez playing defensive fullback was a total fail, and Frimpong’s not exactly a defensive powerhouse either - he’s one of the most lightweight players I’ve seen!
Our midfielders don’t have any could play static role, so we struggle with rest defense. Trent’s not the best defender, but he can stay back and still contribute to attacks. Unlike Kerkez, Frimpong, or Bradley, who’d be out of their depth staying back.
And our build-up and passing? We clearly lack someone to control the ball and dictate the game
. I had high hopes for Alister, but even in good form, he’s not that guy. Yeah, we’ve spent a lot and have some crazy talent with Wirtz, Ekitike, Isak… but our squad’s still unbalanced and lacks some critical assets IMO.
City faced similar issues last season, btw. Anyone got their points from this time last season?
Equal with Real and Inter and 1 point behind City and PSG in CL.
4th in PL.
How the fuck as we have been reasonably shite all season.
So will take those positions. Maybe with a quality CB in the window and Mo back in form it can only get better.
Well Grav to be fair, you could also state Dom is more reliable now.
I don’t know if Dom wouldn’t improve anyway by getting more accustomed to the league.
It’s how it is though. He has improved under Slot, no doubt some players improved under other coaches more to the situation than the manager
Look, I’m not about being proven right, I’m just calling it like it is. The biggest coaching win for Jurgen was transforming Gini into a beast of a CM. The biggest coaching win for Arne was restoring Grav to his best position to thrive and become truly world class.
I get that you feel Slot shouldn’t bear the brunt of all the critique but you say the same thing on this thread and then invariably across multiple match threads because that play has has become very much the norm. Again, that’s Slot’s job to identify and fix. Players need a plan and a template for every eventuality on the pitch. If you leave it to themselves to figure out or have shoddy training and sessions about it and chaos and panic will be the result.
I’ve said this a couple of times and it’s been interpreted that I’m comparing Slot to Klopp, which is not the case.
But in 20/21, the season after winning the league, we were 34 points after 18 games. Right now this season, we are 32 points after 18.
In 20/21, from this point, we lost 7 of the next 10. In other words, in 20/21, it took an incredibly long time to turn it around, even with a coach the calibre of Klopp. Slot needs some time.
and it’s been interpreted that I’m comparing Slot to Klopp, which is not the case.
well…you kinda are…
I’m comparing the situations of 20/21 and this season: post-title slump, injuries, defence turning to shit, poor runs of form.
So no. I’m not comparing Klopp to Slot. Comparing seasons? Sure , comparing the difficulty of getting out of a slump across two seasons under different coaches? Sure.
maybe it’s your intent not to have them as relevant to the example, but by doing so and asking people to leave out the biggest and most telling variable, you’re making the comparison a mute point
if you know what i mean.
I think the apt comparison is actually what happened after winning the league, rather than Slot v Klopp. And you can throw in the 22/23 season in which we as good as won it the year before (taking City to the final game until Villa collapsed, reaching the CL final and winning both domestic cups)
The point is that it takes a lot of effort to sustain league winning form over a campaign and that is often followed by a season in which fatigue sets in. I’ll bet that that if Arsenal do win it this season, they’ll struggle in 2026/27
Genuine question. So for you, is it just two seasons of resignation, this season and next, waiting it out until Slot departs?
Or do you hope for anything between now and then? Or look forward to anything?
Waiting it out? Yes
Resignation? No, because we have to qualify for the CL.
Still looking forward to special games and hoping to beat our rivals.
But can’t see Slot win another trophy or make us play better football even if we spend another £250m.
Agreed with this except for the Kerkez bit. He absolutely can defend.
comparison a mute point
It’s moot point, as is your comment really ![]()
Thanks for the sincere reply.
You may be right, but I hope not! I’m adopting a wait and see policy. I think this season we will finish in the CL spots via the Prem but won’t get enough consistency to be close to a title challenge.
As for the CL, maybe we go out but I’m hoping we get to the latter stages, where anything can happen. We despatched Real Madrid quite handily, and that sort of display makes me think anything is possible. Isak redemption arc and he scores the winner in the final? I’ll have some of that.
That would be an ideal season. Even just getting to the latter stages of the CL (eg semi final) would be great experience for the squad.
