Totally agree, should always show respect even if you think Arne isn’t the man.
Who is? I’m pretty confident we can beat anyone in the CL. Certainly there will be no teams wanting to visit Anfield
Wow! 50 posts to discuss nothing.
I’ve just watched the press conference this morning. I felt that Slot seemed in a better mood today. It’s difficult to know what is going on behind the scenes, but I’m wondering if a big thumping victory has raised spirits on the training ground.
At least PSV haven’t made it to the next stage
Head 3 is pep’s isn’t it? I’m going with Head 2 ![]()

Maybe that Frimpong isn’t so bad and Konate and Jones being back, must have felt he couldn’t get a break from it.
Newcastle weathered the first half and they should have beaten them in the second half PSG were lucky to get a point. If you have fast wingers you have a good chance of beating them.
Slot isn’t an idiot. But he makes own goals with some of his comments. Recently, I’ve sensed a defensiveness from him in his pressers which have come with some problematic comments. Often, that shift portends a manager who senses that their place is not secure.
Recently, he made a point of saying something like “Our club expects to win titles, but we’ve only won 2 in 30 years.” If I’m giving him maximum benefit of the doubt, I’d assume he meant “winning titles is difficult, so perhaps measure your expectations.”
But I could also answer that question by saying “our club expects to win titles, and we have won 2 in the last 5 years and were two points away from winning 4 of the last 6, justifying the expectation that we should be competing for titles every year.” But of course, that would make this season feel even more disappointing by comparison.
The smart thing would have been for Arne to say “we expect to compete for titles every year. The league is difficult to win, and sometimes injuries and other changes can make that even harder, but we will always make that a priority because at this great club, our supporters deserve it.” That would have been the right thing to say.
But Arne is trying to defend himself - which I understand and is natural. But they are turning into own goals at a time where you need a manager who knows how to raise up the players and supporters and build a collective mentality.
No other manager has had such funds made available to them… Maybe he meant with the money they have ploughed back into the club, they expect to win titles now…
Either way, it’s his job at the moment to win them
Trouble is, if he means that, he’s in danger of sounding like Roy Hodgson, who once said something very similar…
I really want this to work out for him, but he has scored a few own goals through his actions and speech, and now every word gets analysed to the nth degree. No surprise he’s becoming so defensive - he must feel the pressure.
Id hazard a guess at CBs of yesteryear that were made of biscuits were broken very early in their careers. Your body had to be made of tougher stuff back in the day. These days theres much more onus on winning the ball cleaning and avoiding endangering opponents, therefore these biscuits are able to have careers in football.
If only they were ginger nuts, one tough biscuit
Well with a few days of coaching before our encounter with Man C this must be a big test for Arne and his coaching staff. Can they get it ‘right’?
I really feel this could be where I fall off the fence and finally decide one way or another. He’s imo has had long enough. He has an opportunity to indicate his real value here with the time available.
I just hope these few days won’t be used as an excuse for a holiday in some forsaken place in the world.
I’m not sure a result against City is going to be decisive one way or another. They are quite good.
Did I say anything about the result?
Sorry if I did. I only meant to implique a performance that resembles have some coaching nous about it.
You know something decent and hopefully understandable.
Fair enough. It’s not a bad time to play them. They appear to shipping goals and we may have just hit some decent form.
I do believe we can beat them however saying stuff like that I prefer to leave in the pre match threads.
Here I generally look at the past however was thinking that this match is quite an opportunity.
Any win or domination against any English club that remain in the CL at this stage might have a psychological impact later on if we get drawn against them… Slight at best I know, but at least a win would be recent and on record in the media scrutiny
Looking at our lack of spine at Bournemouth and the first half hour against Newcastle, they’ll be licking their lips at the prospect of facing us. There’s a mental fragility there, compounded by the team looking poorly coached for months. While I’m not even thinking of blaming Salah, Slot is caught between the hammer and the anvil with him - I think the team looks better when he’s not starting and he probably can’t bench him now after that silly interview and genuine lack of options in attack. Guardiola will know how to exploit it.
