Arne Slot - Head Coach (Part 1)

every team needs there Wes Browns, John O’Sheas, Johnny Evans, Javier Hernandez’s, Federico Macheda’s, Tom Clevery’s, Phil Neville’s, Darren Fletcher’s etc etc…

cant keep relying upon the same 15-16 players game after game

Putting aside the fact that I think the club - Slot on down - are treating the kid poorly, the refusal to play Ramsay begs the question why we even bother to put him on the bench.

Surely there’s got to be a defender in the U-21s who would be worth a spin? Even as an emergency option?

I think Arne alluded to this earlier in the season when he said something about us not having a player like Murphy at Newcastle?

Not sure there is. We’ve just signed several CBs because there isnt really one there we are confident in. Of the full backs they’re either out on loan or had their careers stall because of injury. It wouldnt surprise me to see further investment into the u21 and below squads

Just like our first team bench our whole academy is shit. They’ve done nothing but playing Curling :curling_stone: in the last decade.

That was more about explaining our struggles getting Isak up and running, given how many of how goals last season came from Murphy assists :zipper_mouth_face:

I flip and flop, ideally I want him to stay and work it out but then I watch the performances, where we can only play well for periods and rarely put in a 90 minute performance.

Also, what gets me is how we go from playing well, get a goal and then change from being front footed and positive, to back footed and negative.

There are sparks of improvement then we are back to step 1.

I think this is what is frustrating fans, yes we all know that our squad is thin through injuries, but there are still players that can come in to rest and rotate players.

We are carrying out of form players but don’t give others a chance to help and to see what they can offer. Also, seeing someone in training doesn’t always relate to what happens on the pitch, Teves was supposed to be awful in training but the opposite on the pitch.

Just try something different and stop playing our most energetic midfielder at FB

Arne just seems frightened to try anything

Wait…when was this?

Personally, I think Ramsay has been around long enough this season to get a start… Why, because if nothing else the kid will give 120% effort up and down that line. Effort, that is the thing we have been short of from others at the moment…
Even if he is classed by many as a Championship level player at best… then we need to remind ourselves that Sunderland were a Championship side 6months ago, so it might even itself out eh.
One thing I read a while back; and I will try and find the article again; someone in ‘the know’, was stating that Slot has never bothered watching any academy games…! If there is even a grain of truth in that, then it is shameful.
Throw the kid in Arnie lad… give him a chance

Naaa. The fact they are sending signals they are not removing him it’s likely a well planned PR front. It could also be a tactic to ensure players respect him until he’s gone. This way we get some points until the new coach takes over.

As far as when they’ll announce his departure, who knows. end of Feb gives them a bit of time to make arrangements…and if not end of season.

Also, good to remember all players are assets, if Ramsay does get hames under his belt then his value increases, same goes for Endo etc

He’s really gone into full self preservation mode, fair play.

“Remember that title in 2020? Big asterisk that, unlike mine. Gerrard slipped, btw.”

Sigh, he is really not endearing himself to the supporters every time he gets into an interview. It’s also hard for him in the current football environment that Silence is Golden is literally impossible (and definitely appears not in Slot’s character).

I just don’t know how he’s supposed to answer that question. It’s not up to him whether he stays or not. The only folks who can answer that don’t sit for press conferences. They just wait for curated puff pieces put out by LFCTV to say anything at all.

He could have answered it better, and simply said he hopes he stays, as he would love to lead this squad forward after a difficult season, but it is not his decision.

Referencing Klopp finishing outside the CL spots was not the way to go!

This answer is either stupid or arrogant, or both

I agree, he could have answered it better than he did. But still, it’s not a fair question to ask of him.

They smell blood, so I would imagine this sort of questioning will continue until Slot’s future is resolved one way or the other. I agree that it’s not fair at all that he should have to answer, and that’s one aspect of the press I can’t stand.

Slot would do well to have a soundbite ready to go on that sort of question, as we move forward. Smile, rise above, give a polite platitude, move on, that sort of thing.

I hate the game, but that’s the stage we are at.

Like Fabinho, right?
