a) Slot will still believe he can turn it round. He is a coach working at the very top of the game and he wouldn’t have got this far without possessing a huge amount of belief in himself and his methods.
b) Even if he did privately believe that he isn’t up to the job, he is still under contract for another year and entitled to a pay off should he be fired. He is not going to willing forego millions of pounds to willingly resign, just because we’re pissed and want him to just fuck off.
And, if he did, it would almost be an admission of unemployability for any next club. What manager falls on his sword and admits being out of their depth. It’s post-catholic.
Doubt he thinks any different, Slot hasn’t yet throw his best man from his wedding under a bus so I’ll hold fire that Slot is any worse but it’s got Rodgers era ending vibes.
That was one of the factors Klopp gave when discussing his decision to leave. He believed that they had put together the basis of a rejuvenated squad that could compete at the top and he wanted to allow his successor that benefit.
Just by looking at the way we play - players who looked great only a week ago whilst playing for their national teams - and I think it’s fair to say that we’re not performing anywhere near the same level as the team that Slot inherited.
Nevermind any debate about actual talent, we don’t even seem to have the conditioning to get through a single game without the majority of the team looking like they’re struggling to run around the pitch.
If we’re going to have a chance to compete next year whoever is in charge is going to have to do a hell of a lot in pre-season just to get the fitness levels up, let alone get them working like a cohesive unit with a defined playing style and tactical ideology.
Does anyone believe that Slot is the person best suited to oversee this in the summer? Especially with the world cup cutting down the amount of time that we’ll have all the players together.
Does anyone believe the team/squad are in a better place at the moment than we were when Slot replaced Klopp?
On one hand, I understand why a new manager would want nothing to do with the PSG disaster that looks likely. But if a new manager had been brought in before now, there would not have been any pressure on him to come out of this with anything positive on such short notice. The only material thing they can still impact is a top 5 finish, but the room for error there gets smaller with each passing day.
