I think we need to sort out fitness and training regime first. I mean, I would take a team running like headless chickens but capable of remaining fresh as daisies over 90 minutes over us yesterday.
If we run like headless chickens, it is just a matter of time we get burnt out.
What this team should do is to recognise pressing triggers, press hard, know when to fall back if the counter-press fails and have the ability to fall back and counter if necessary over the 90 minutes.
Right now, we only know how to fall back and nothing else!
He’s finished, isn’t he? A dead man walking.
This is right, but how did you feel at the time about our chances to come back from these disappointments? I’d bet that you felt quite confident, as we all did.
Now, do you feel confident that Slot will address the ongoing problems, and that we’ll start in the new season all guns blazing?
Not amusing in the least.
And is that what we should be “aiming” for? Just because it happened to our best manager of recent times?
And you neglect to provide the context that we all knew Klopp could and would fix it.
We know this current fella can’t
I’m picturing Edwards on manoeuvres in the background. He’s secured Alonso, Hughes thinks he’s safe (he’s not), Slot thinks his main backer (Hughes) means he’s here for next season (he isn’t), local journos are only getting lines from Hughes, they don’t know…
Meanwhile Edwards is the puppet master and he’s playing 3D chess in the shadows.
I hope you’re right!
Put that spliff down!
Yes then no on that two-part question.
I think Slot will steer us out of the mire. Despite what is said on here, last season wasn’t an accident, or worse, “Klopp’s title”.
Having said that, I am fairly confident that the poor form from this season will bleed somewhat into the start of 26/27 which Slot can’t afford to do. There are no signs that we’ve turned a corner and we are practically into the final few weeks of the season. I think he would turn it around but I think it would take time that he doesn’t have.
For that reason alone, unless the owners think they can navigate an off-season with conversations continually around Slot’s suitability for the job, and that those noises will continue into the season unless we get lucky and have a flying start (not likely), then I think the owners will pull the trigger and change the manager.
To be really fucking fair to Hughes, nobody could have seen the entire team’s fitness drop off the cliff just like that. His buys are not bad ( like Wirtz, Hugo and to a certain extent Kerkez) and his sales were even better.
Out of Hughes and Slot, I would give Hughes another chance and see if his buys for this season work better under a new head coach who takes his physical conditioning seriously than the current head coach that we have now.
Just purely on paper, our squad should be challenging for the top 2 position in the league comfortably and going to at least the semis of the UCL.
This team will look very different under Luis Enrique, Xabi Alonso, Andoni Iraola, Cesc Fabregas or even Sebastian Hoeneß.
I have a coin and can toss it as many times as you like
.
Except that if it’s true that Hughes remains behind Slot, notwithstanding the issue you highlight here, then he’s failing the club. He also didn’t get a clearly attainable Guehi in the summer.
Fair enough
Let’s hope Hughes know when to cut his losses…
Guehi was a fuck up all round with Glasner acting up…

"Alongside seven draws, Liverpool have now dropped points in more games than they have won. The same problems that were cropping up in the early months of the season are still commonplace now. Slot is not fixing the issues, they are just coasting along.
They have conceded 17 goals from set-pieces this term, their most on record, and always look weak defensively. "
Records and first’s just continue to be smashed under this clown.
Seems a fair few of the Liverpool journalists are going for it.
As I said no one comes back from this. Klopp in that injury ravaged season had started to show two things, up turn in form by now and a willingness to use the squad. At first it seemed he didn’t want to but it seemed to happen more and more after that as a manager.
Like Rio should start yesterday, Frimpong or Gomez should be right back and Jones should have been CM, no real excuses to continue playing CM at RB, we’ve got three games left, if Gomez goes down he goes down.
Macallister is utterly awful, I am starting to wonder the Argentinian coach mentioned he turned up injured maybe he meant more he was unfit.
To be honest, I’m increasingly reluctant to criticize individual players for their performances, as the team is clearly not being trained properly. Players are constantly being used in unfamiliar positions, and their supposed strengths aren’t being utilized; their runs, pressing, etc., aren’t coordinated. Therefore, I would strongly prefer to wait and see how they develop and perform under a different coach/coaching team. The way we’ve been performing for months simply doesn’t reflect what these players should be capable of.
I’ll criticise them happily however I do think they are being coached poorly. It doesn’t help though that they keep coming out with rather odd excuses and the “we must do better”, how many weeks has that been put out there?
A better set up probably sees the potential reached for many, some will be angry they can’t fly to Rome for a few days in the middle of a season but if they are then bye bye.
