Wouldn’t the analysts at the club have discussed that with him though?
Probably, but it’s something that coaches like to point to in public, when they have not much else (positive) to say
Yeah, pretty much that.
You could win the xG league, but there’s no trophy for it. Its another stat that makes no difference to how we as supporters watch the match. It is obviously a benefit in coaching or even in inflating expectation in players, but it is meanigless when you look at the table
I still remember when Slot first took the helm and the redmen played the first few matches. The pace was slow, and was nothing like the Klopp era, as the players were controlling the ball but not really pushing and pressing. Maybe it was the TV or audio commentaries, in which the commentator mentioned that the quietness at Anfield was somewhat unnatural, and the supporters did not know how to react with singing and chanting with the lack of intensity until we “started getting used to Slotball”. Oh how hindsight is 20/20.
Turned the other way, I think it is a statistic that can actually underpin what we are all seeing on the pitch - the 24/25 edition was creating more chances and allowing fewer than the 25/26, even when the results were not actually as good. After 5 games in 24/25, we were in 2nd versus a commanding 1st this season. But the malaise we could all see started (and shows in the xG) in the 2nd half of last season was still there, and the writing was on the wall for a poor season.
Sometimes the table does lie…just not usually for very long.
Waiting for Indy to report there is a scheduled announcement today at 9.21
Liverpool have no plans to complete a summer review into Arne Slot’s position at the club, with the Dutchman not under pressure to be sacked, GIVEMESPORT understands.
…despite the poor season, owners Fenway Sports Group have no plans to conduct a review into Slot’s position, with the Dutchman expected to be in the dugout when the new 2026/27 season begins.
GMS senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs said: "I don’t even think this narrative of Liverpool reassessing in the summer necessarily has that much credence regarding Arne Slot’s future.
"The position, speaking to Liverpool sources, is clear and has been for quite some time, that Liverpool and FSG back Arne Slot and they’ve got a big summer ahead, and this idea that they’re going to have a review at the end of the season and may U-turn on that position is downplayed by sources.
Well, this post could go to the FSG thread as well. Sigh.
We will see both in terms of “sources”, if they were to miss out on their bare minimum target your not telling me they would at least review that even if Slot stays?
I do think the only true thing is the hierarchy has no interest in Alonso.
I’d be shocked if this team looks any different next season if Slot stays.
It feels like May 2015.
I think I probably said the same thing back then.
If Slot stays, I won’t be as eager to get out of bed next season to watch the dreary way that Liverpool plays. I saw the nice Shankly Track Jacket posted by @Livvy in the Adidas thread. I am very tempted by it but I am not going to spend any money until the coaching situation is addressed by FSG. (Or in the extremely unlikely circumstances that Slot gives us exciting football. Yeah right.)
But we all definitely know all ready that the team will actually look very different next season, right?
No Salah
No Robbo
No Konate (he’s going home to France surely? - he was offered a new contract ages ago, that would only mean that he was the reason why it didn’t get signed, because he didn’t sign it, he arrived in 2021 for goodness sake!)
No Ekitike (sorry
)
No Becker ? (Hope not, but the club had mentioned about selling someone
)
No Slot ? (That’s obviously a wait and see, find out in about 2 weeks time)
Next seasons Liverpool team is going to look completely different however which way you anticipate it. Could be the freshest shake up in years, bring it on, as it’s been dull for a good while.
Yeah,so many times this season my screen has been in diabolical trouble, just glad I rarely drink stubbies watching now.
If this happensI fear for where we might be on the table, continuing this unless FSG have a personal tooth fairy is a worry.
I don’t fear I expect it and then I expect he will be sacked regardless how it looks on Hughes, it can always look worse.
This sounds like nonsense, but if it’s true it’s the clearest sign that a rot has set in the upper echelons of the club.
It’d be unfathomable not to conduct a review even after successful seasons, let alone after this one.
All these articles proclaiming the security of Slot’s position are starting to feel like a deliberate trolling campaign. As if they know that the fans want him out and they are trotting out story after story designed to rile them up.
There is a lot of noise inside football circles that Billy Hogan is overruling Hughes/Edwards now and is making more executive decisions.
In what direction though?
