Arne Slot - Head Coach (Part 2)

That’s the modern way of saying they’ve downed tools.

It’s bordering gaslighting, and if we were to cut ties and start afresh this summer I’d be ok but the more it continues I will get even angrier with him (And it’s sad because I don’t think he is a shit like others want to paint him as). I do think we should seek a new connection between FSG and the club (Like Gordon) as I don’t think the disconnect helps there. I’m not going blame Edwards as his role seems odd and I’m not sure what he is actually doing. Hughes however needs more focus but again he probably made the same mistakes as every DoF makes its just compounded by how bad we are from a year previously.

However no one can seriously be watching that and expect a couple of signings to replace others will improve it. It sadly seems obvious were we are going and if he doesn’t go now he will be gone when he starts the same excuses next season and the “to score 2 at villa park” comment shows someone who hasn’t a clue how to solve it. No one needed to hear that.

I think we need to draw a line under it all. Give the new guy a fresh slate.

I thought the post-PSG comment about him thinking we actually competed with PSG was a low point and he obliterated it with that Villa comment.

There is definitely some truth to that, but it doesn’t quite meet the eye test. We were playing differently from Klopp’s previous teams from August-December, with obvious success. At the time, it looked like the players had taken to Slot’s ideas remarkably quickly. My gut sense is that what we were seeing was actually something of an ideal hybrid, Slot’s possession but with a team ready to shift into an aggressive counter. Instead of recognizing the delicate balance he had arrived at, Slot kept pushing forward and we became completely predictable.

Nonetheless, it is just very strange that a coach would win the Dutch league, win the PL, and yet seemingly not observe failings that have become more and more obvious over the last 17 months.

That’s diabolical.

Joyce is saying that the price for Jones is 35 mil. Yet another homegrown player, a Scouser who lives and breathes Liverpool is being allowed either to leave or to run down his contract, when there is already a serious problem with the homegrown quota. You do have to ask what the fuck are we doing?

It’s starting to feel that if we keep going down this road, we will be irrelevant for the next 10 years. It’s incomprehensible that Edwards and Hughes see what has been transpiring for more than a year and actually believe that a transfer window is the answer while they’re culling Academy graduates from the squad.

Slot has got to go and a general inquest has to take place at every level.

Conceding late goals has a lot to do with the lacking fitness and conditioning. Tired players make stupid mistakes and poor decisions.

There are two problems with that post.

  • Roy Hodgson wasn’t the manager for the whole of the 2010/11 season. He was sacked in December and Kenny took over. Had he remained in charge I dare say we’d have shipped a lot more than 44 goals. We might have even got relegated. The comparison is simply not a fair one.

  • I haven’t seen any evidence that anyone at Liverpool thinks we’re going fine and the project is on track. Even if they decide to keep Slot in place, it doesn’t necessarily mean everyone thinks we’re on track.

Let’s keep criticism rooted in reality and avoid outrage farming.

That’s splitting hairs, the fact is that we conceded far too many goals and there’s absolutely no way to sugarcoat that.

Of course we have, but there is still no need to exaggerate.

Suggesting that Roy Hodgson only conceded 44 goals in 2010/11 to have a pop at Slot is missing the obvious fact that he was sacked at the turn of the year and it was Kenny stabilising things that kept the goals conceded under 50.

They could just say Slot’s team has conceded too many goals, which it has. Bringing Hodgson into it serves no other purpose than to use hyperbole to get the point (and poster) noticed by suggesting that it’s all comparable to Hodgson’s short tenure.

It isn’t. I remember Hodgson. It was more miserable than this, but the misery was existential. We didn’t know if the football club was going to remain in existence, we were locked in a battle to get the ownership out and Hodgson was brought in to downward manage expectations. It was grim.

The final home game of the season will likely have protests against Slot again. That says it all about him right now. I’ve lost my mind over how he could keep the job.

All the trio - Ed, Slot, and Hughes - only have one year left on their contracts, and somehow our club’s future totally depends on them. It’s laughable. I have zero belief they could turn it around after this summer. It’s a total failure in every aspect.

This is one of the most bewildering elements of the last 18 months. It is an area that can readily be measured empirically - we only see the quantitative stuff from matches, but I would assume the club maintains VO2max scores etc for the players, and there must be some decline. It is also an easy thing to fix, albeit not overnight.

We had played 20 and conceded 27, so under Hodgson we were actually somewhat tighter on a per game basis (1.35 vs. 1.4). But that does have to be taken carefully, given the dire ‘2 banks of 4’ defensive football Hodgson preached. Slot at least has a positive GD.

I have no idea why you’re always reacting so snarkily; it’s incredibly annoying now. I didn’t post it “to have a pop at Slot,” ffs. I couldn’t care less about him anymore. I was only concerned about our defense, but it’s completely pointless to make that clear. I’m out of here for now.

@Livvy - Don’t let him get under your skin… Just ignore it

I think that should have put us in the ball park of conceding 53 goals over a 38 game season, but it can’t account for any further deterioration under his watch had he not been sacked.

I think when Hodgson was sacked our goal difference over the 20 games was -1. It was 15 by the time Kenny finished.

Just looked it up - in the league it was -3.

We’re already adressing this issue by using the cutting edge fitness technique of excessive resting and dining.

I wasn’t saying you posted anything just to have a pop at Slot. I was referring to the tweet you shared. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

Yeah I get it.

Spats and disagreements with fellow Tanners in addition to poor results and horrible football makes all us genuine LFC supporters a bit testy right now. This season can’t end quick enough.
