He does point out that things can get bad but things can improve but then says they won’t settle for mediocre. I would say it’s not the most supportive of backing the manager.
It would suggest to me even if they ultimately decide to stick it hasn’t been taken and they will review it prior to deciding.
If I was going go with my gut feeling it’s probably leading to thanks for all here is some money and we go our separate ways, that or he ends up being sacked in October. Also ironically I do think they want to see something to go on in the final three games, I don’t think scraping 5th with 3 draws will help him.
Yeah, he’s essentially kicking the question asked to him into the corner. Like you, I think they’ll take the time to assess everything when the season closes, before making the decision one way or another.
And like you, I feel that Slot’s future hangs by a thread right now. Three more mediocre performances will probably see him axed, even if we manage to get into fifth place.
So it’s basically a prove it quickly or you’re gone type of message. Just like the Rodgers situation when they said improvements had to be made. I don’t think they’ll make the same mistake twice.
What I am struggling with in observing our current plight, there is just no feelgood factor anymore. Not with or amongst the players, the anticipation of upcoming football matches, the shite football that is constantly served to us on platter, disjointed performance after disjointed performance… Slot has turned LFC into a regular ‘borefest’ and the achingly numb feelings that accompany such.
That first season to me, is as though when Slot landed, we were almost at the summit of Mount Everest, with just a few more strides to reach the top… Yes, he pushed us up the final few steps and we got to plant the PL Winners flag at the top, but fuck me, he does no more than push us off to take fastest ‘arse over tit’ tumble to base camp again in record time… I mean for what..? In order for him to start the climb again with his own philosophy and players of choice that suit his 'come day, go day, everyday day is Sunday Slotball snail-pace ascent again, that we all know will never succeed in the juggernaut thunder of PL footballing attrition.
Hardest part for me to take, is that I once believed this guy is the guy that could push LFC into another era of silverware laden glory… How foolish do I feel now then eh, after witnessing that the guy after having £450m spends, laid at his feet, is turning into the biggest ‘party-pooping’ prophetic disappointment since the days way before Jurgen arrived… The quicker he is gone, the quicker the club can begin to breathe life back into the fanbase…
If Slot was staying, John Henry would have answered the question differently. Something on the lines of supporting the manager for the tenure of his contract, looking forward to next season. I think his talk of not accepting mediocrity spells the end for Arne as our manager.
There are a lot of people reading a lot into everything. All of it to confirm their own expectations on what they hope to happen.
I’d prefer to see how it turns out. I know what I’d do, but I don’t have much agency on the matter. If he stays, I’ll get behind him and wish him well with an open mind.
By the way, John Henry’s comments is exactly the kind of non-committal nothing statement typical of someone who has delegated such matters to other people.
If I know our owners by now and how they learned and evolved with time, I’m 99% sure they exactly wouldn’t say things that might be taken out of context or translated to another topic…
Yeah we’re pretty much saying the same thing here but I’d add to your last but that last bit and say it’s also possible to move on from him in the summer without his appointment or tenure being seen as a failure.
It’s a tiny nuance but maybe depends how deeply you feel the pain of this season. Nice to have a pleasant and constructive debate on something though, appreciate the openness to a slightly different point of view on a touchy subject for us all.
Oh absolutely. Switch the seasons around and we’re all in a much better mood. But as an outcome after Klopp left even where we are now is probably better than I thought we might be such was his influence.
