It might do going forward in other games. That referee yesterday was crap, he had lost the plot in the first minute, not issuing a red card for the tackle that took Robertson out
I won’t be holding my breath.
Good idea… but at least he was showing a reactive instinct, with a pro-active intention. Not many referees will want to be counted out on a TV screen across the country, for not doing their job correctly.
They’ll just see it as a reason to not be intimidated and give in to Arne’s demands for fair officiating.
This isn’t even baseless speculation. Various referees have made it clear over the years that their egos and reputation take precedent over any notion of fair and professional officiating.
I’m not even joking with my criticism of PGMOL. It’s abundantly clear that like the Met Police, they are institutionally (and culturally) rotten and need complete root and branch reform.
I agree. Arrogance within the role though, cannot disguise incompetence. If people or the crowd in general, begin counting the seconds of time wasting goal keepers for example, the arrogance will succumb to preventing the incompetence raising its head… eventually :0)
Yes, that’s why a referee can still be highly rated and given important games after saying that players need to ask for the sending off for a ridiculous challenge, and the VAR for that particular challenge can “forget” the rules and not recommend a sending off either, and still steal a living for a few more years before getting exposed for his coke habit.
I have mentioned elsewhere… as like a fish, the rot commences at the head - Howie.!
Individual referees, if they can avoid personal ridicule, as in the AS counting upon fingers of time wasting antics unfolding before them, then they probably will, and as it is their job anyway, put a stop to such time wasting.
10 seconds. Arne was counting to 10.
I really wish for this to happen. It’ll put pressure on the keeper as well.
His tactics are on point, but there are still issues for him to iron out. He needs to make more frequent use of his subs and find ways to utilize more of his squad. More alarmingly, starting slowly has become a theme again for the 3rd season in a row. And our defending in the last games has become as precarious as it was last season. Pressing is ineffective, transitions are slower if not inexistent sometimes, and our backline is trying to keep a high line like this:
Gomez TAA
Robertson
Van Dijk
In fairness, he’s already noted the recent defensive frailty several times in his press conferences, the problem is that it seems to be getting worse.
We say… please don’t let your hair grow gray because of this… oh wait
Slot was also shown a yellow card against Chelsea and Arsenal, the latter after a mix-up with the fourth official, who thought he was swearing at him and not Ibrahima Konaté.
Didn’t know this. Like him even more now.
Welcome to the PL Arne. True test and all that…
So he got booked in error but they didn’t rescind it
We have a saying in our part ofn the world: wait long long. That actually means never or no chance.
Oh, the useless selfserving PGMOL idiots will have ready excuses such as “given his history, as he’ll get booked anyway so it’s better to be sooner (even if in error)”.
He should have shouted out in the Dutch language… Could say whatever he wanted then, because the numpty 4th official would not of have had a clue… Is this not in itself a flaw in the system… punished for speaking in a language that is not his own
Although Dutch is about 30% flegmier than Scouse. The ref might have thought he was about to spit at him.
Horrible language.
Was born and lived a portion of my life in Belgium, but don’t know a single word of Flemish.
