We had this discussion a while back. It’s not only USA and the west keeping silent , It’s also countries like SA etc who have conveniently forgotten about Palestinians as well. Countries who had their hand in escalating the conflict (not nearly as much as how Israel does it) who now see profit in the trade with Israel.

I think part of the issue is we have a tendency to just pick our sides. Once that frame work is laid it’s really difficult for stories to be framed as “good guy does some apartheid”. Nixon’s famous quote was that if the president does it then it isnt illegal, but that is how so much of the west views the world - we’re the good guy, therefore anything we do (or an ally) is justified as being in the interest of some good. It’s just very tautological

The police have cleared the BBC presenter of any criminal activity. The wife of Hew Edwards has released a statement.
A fellow BBC presenter referred to Edwards as “a man who has embodied BBC values”. Maybe not the supportive framing you want to give someone’s character in a sordid sex scandal.

So he paid a person for pictures. The person was over 16. What’s the problem?

For explicit pictures it would have had to be over 18. Given the police statement it would appear that they were.

Possessing, taking or sharing of sexually explicit photos of someone under 18 is illegal. That is the issue.
