The people most at risk are those who have a proud self identification as someone too smart, too well read, to suffer those effects.
The next group are those who take pride in their self identified common sense moderation and think there is nobility in taking whatever the midpoint is between two POVs. The current “conventional wisdom” over what happened during covid is so off base because of how common this tendency is.
Absolutely horrific news this morning. A passenger plane carrying 64 passengers and crew has crashed into a river in Washington DC after it collided in mid-air with a US Army helicopter.
Too early, but maybe the idea of air traffic control is DEI woke stuff they aren’t going to do anymore?
I actually laughed yesterday at the MAGA House member who suggested that the TSA isn’t needed, why does the taxpayer need to be involved in airport screening, get the airlines to do their own screening - implying this was more Democratic big government creep. Does he remember who put that in and then insisted the rest of the damn world did it too?
I saw the video of the accident, the helicopter flew directly into the side of the plane. Not seeing the plane is actually completely impossible and from what it looked like there was no reaction at all from the helicopter. Something must have gone terribly wrong.
Almost certainly an air traffic control fuck-up. The airplane was seconds from landing, a common approach follows the line of the Potomac northward on the Maryland side, then makes a left turn to come in over the water and land on the Virginia side. Chilling, because I have been on that approach dozens of times. If you sit on the starboard side you get a spectacular view of the Mall.
I can only assume the helicopter was flying some kind of patrol route, and was just below the airplane - which suddenly turned right into the path. The closing time would have been incredibly small, and the helicopter pilot probably wasn’t looking up.
