Cars, Driving And All Things Automotive

I could sort of go for it but in reality it would be largely useless for me.

I’ve spent years doing stuff with my van trying to get the “perfect” blend of practicality and gadgets. Plus my needs have changed too.

Unless you go for something big, there’s always a compromise between the various aspects like storage, bed space, and living equipment like cooking, fridges and the hallowed WC. And then theres the electrics which is a topic on its own.

My current incarnation is far simpler. L shaped seating / bed (single) with storage underneath. A small fridge and a power bank for electrics. Charged via the cigarette lighter or the solar panel on the roof. Everything else lives outside on the roof. Kite surfing gear, fire pit, paddleboard, and whatever else. I will add a small box/storage with a swing out table for my alcohol cookers to sit on. And the goid part is I can remove it all in 5 minutes to give me a full van if needed.

After years, I’ve only ever boiled water in the van for a brew. All cooking is done outside. So my philosophy is maximise storage and simplicity. I carry water in a jerry can and that lives outsude . Modern vans with these full kitchens are a complete waste of space imo. You cant store anything in them.

Isn’t that what the Cybertruck thing is?

I thought Cybertruck was designed based on a dumpster on wheels, right. Right? Right??

I had evolution heading towards an armoured tank in my mind

Thinking about it, pretty sure I remember a Kenny Everett sketch on something like that.

I know what you mean. Mismatch tyre treads at the front. You’d never get that where I live.

There should be a law passed along the lines of you are only allowed to drive cars proportional to your height/ size. Especially women.

Hyundai Motor North America is stopping sales of the 2026 Hyundai Palisade Limited and Calligraphy trims in the U.S. and Canada due to an issue with the second and third-row power seats. In certain situations, those seats may not adequately detect contact with an occupant or object as intended. This condition may occur during second and third-row power‑folding operations, as well as during use of the second-row one‑touch tilt‑and‑slide function. Hyundai is also in the process of submitting a recall action to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for these vehicles.

Hyundai is aware of a tragic incident involving a Palisade. While Hyundai does not yet have the full details and the incident is still under investigation, a young child lost her life. Hyundai extends its deepest sympathies to her family.

The Accident: The child was reportedly sitting in the third row of the parked SUV while her mother and another sibling were in the vehicle and her father was shopping. For reasons still under investigation, the automatic power seat collapsed forward and pinned her.
Rescue Efforts: Bystanders worked for several minutes to free the girl from the seat. She was rushed to Akron Children’s Hospital, where she later died.
Medical Ruling: The Summit County Medical Examiner ruled the death an accident caused by compression from the power-folding seat.

God I’m glad I don’t drive over there. Why do all you American lunatics feel the need to drive monster trucks as your daily vehicle?

Honda CRV here. I will struggle to get a bigger car than this. Does everything I need. Honda family. 2 CRV. Civic. Element.

Mind you, there are lots of pick up trucks and the size of some/many of them is ridiculous. If you are not paying attention, like the lady in the clip, the visibility low down is appalling. Glad it was just the bonnet of a Lamborghini and not a kid.

I had an email this morning from VW regarding their new all electric Polo. I’m not that interested in a new car at the moment, but they do seem to have cottoned on that people want electric vehicles that look like an actual car.

The Top Gear review is here:

ADAC go into more detail (in German) in their review:

Speaking I’ve VW Their new transporter has a Ford engine with a wet belt. They look very similar to the Ford Transit too.

The Transporter has been a major success for them over the years. Not sure they’ve got it right this time.

Just had a look. It’s just a rebadged Transit van, which is probably not a bad thing. I’m wondering if this is part of their plan to essentially outsource all their ICE production?

I can’t see it appealing to the classic Bulli fans, though.
