Contract discussion thread

I will eat my hats (all of them) if all three leave.

As I’ve said for a long while, I expect Mo and Virgil to extend (I think one or both have already but it’s being kept quiet), and Trent is likely the one that will leave for Madrid.

Don’t worry; it’s just his way of managing expectations.

Don’t worry, I won’t actually eat my hats

Well then you’re a GODDAMNED LIAR!!!

Which Liverpool players are out of contract in the coming years?

2025

Mohamed Salah
Trent Alexander-Arnold
Virgil van Dijk

2026

Andy Robertson
Caoimhin Kelleher
Ibrahima Konate
Vitezslav Jaros

2027

Alisson
Wataru Endo
Joe Gomez
Kostas Tsimikas
Diogo Jota
Curtis Jones
Luis Diaz
Harvey Elliott
Conor Bradley
Trey Nyoni
James McConnell
Tyler Morton

Players contracted to 2028 and beyond

Dominik Szoboszlai
Alexis Mac Allister
Federico Chiesa
Cody Gakpo
Darwin Nunez
Jarell Quansah

I could swear Konate had two years left on his contract. Plenty of work to be done this summer even without taking The Contract Three into account. Looking at how many players have two years or less on their current contracts is why I think we’ll see more players go than we initially thought.

Aside from Konate I think the 2026 batch takes care of themselves, Kelleher probably leaves (by his own choice) this summer, Jaros either stays or goes but shouldn’t really be a major problem either way, and Robbo does appear to be getting towards the point where we’re looking at replacements anyway. I don’t have a major problem with letting him run down his deal and seeing closer to July 2026 whether we still feel he has something to offer or we’re happy to let him move on.

I think it’s a similar state of play for the 2027 batch… by this time next year we’ll have a clearer picture on whether Ali or Mamardashvili will be our no1, Endo will be in his mid-30s so if he’s still here by then is probably allowed to leave, Tsimi may have gone already, same with Diaz. I doubt it will be difficult to tie Jones, Gomez, Nyoni, Elliott and Bradley to new deals should we want to do that. Jota may have been sold by then due to injury concerns and getting on for 30.

I suspect we’ll see the renewals etc go a lot smoother now the new team has got their feet under the table.

I don’t think your optimism is misplaced but I think that optimism as a stance should be outlawed, especially if you’re a Liverpool fan. But that’s for another discussion. :joy:

I think Robertson isn’t the kind of character to back away from a challenge, so I hope he can stay for two or three more seasons, take a step back and “recalibrate” himself, especially in terms of sharing minutes between the club and country. I’m convinced that his fitness has taken a massive hit because of his national team exploits and so his overall form suffered.

I really hope that Konate, Jones, Bradley, Nyoni and McConnell extend their contracts this summer. I’m getting to the point where I’m not too fussed about Elliott, Jota and Diaz if I’m honest - I’m equally happy for them to stay for another year or get sold this summer. It would be great if Elliott could finally break through his glass ceiling because he’s both talented and cares for the club.

Don’t mind Robbo getting another 2 year extension provided he’s increasingly being phased out.

I love Robbo. I criticize him too. But if Slot can work with him to reinvent himself as a backup left sided CB , he’ll still have that role within the club.

The least you can do is find relevant links and then go to the rumours thread and post the links that all three are leaving, as we all know how this turns out when you do it.

Konate is here since 2021.

If he leaves before we make a proper defensive signing during that time, that will be incredibly disappointing.

Yes, we had priorities to solve elsewhere and got some young player additions, but still.

I saw this series, Umbrella Academy, right?

Yep! Nicola could play Rumour without any special effects needed. Would save the production a shitload of money.

Trent is the “least” important of the three, however him not signing upsets me the most. 99% sure he is gone.

Robbie can claim it’s poor all he likes, but if the players are refusing to sign new contracts there is not a lot the club can do.

People always forget the players have agency, and make their own decisions about transfers and contracts.

Yup evidently we have set out a stall, we know Konate is stalling on one as well.

In his defence, he did say ‘relatively’ poor. I agree with you though, given all three have played a key role in this season’s progress, and contracts are a two-way thing it is difficult in my opinion to be particularly critical of the club here.

As you see above it seems very easy.

Spend lots of money on players pay up all the contracts.

How to run a football club, this is why I usually avoid “who to buy” and these contract posts because everything seems so easy in theory.
