Why does it matter? It’s not like they won’t be paying for their energy bills at some point, surely?
Blame the way the government has structured benefits to fall off a cliff edge…

Because some people won’t spend it on bills.
I don’t get this logic. Do they not have to spend on the bills at some point? If they’ve already budgeted for the future increases in energy bills, then why does it matter what they spend this particular cash flow on?
As far as I know I believe most people will get some form of payment for help with energy bills this year, I understand what you mean though, but have you considered looking to see if you are entitled to some form of benefit ? You may be able to claim PIP, on ground any disabilities or medical conditions that may have incurred , anxiety is one that many suffer with and get awarded with nowadays.
Without knowing ages attendance allowance is another option (normally older people who may have missed claiming for pip at some point or being transferred from pip)
So they get the £300 for energy but spend it on holidays, they don’t pay any, council tax, they’re on benefits, they dont pay any rent, they’re on benefits the benefits come out of the NI system and Tax.(I understand)…too which we paid into for 40yrs…so somewhere along the line I’ve paid for they’re energy or holiday…if the £300 was paid straight to their energy supplier, they would be able to budget the rest of their benefits or wage as they refer to it…and no…because we we’re of the generation who were to to save for life after work…we’re not allowed any benefits, pip’s, state pensions, or discounts…we have to live of our work pensions…makes my blood boil…
Depends on age obviously, but if you have worked and paid into the system for the last 40 years, I don’t immediately see why you would not be entitled to a state pension. PiP isnt affected by income either but on age and need/costs.
As for discounts and other benefits, it would presumably depend on how much you recieve through your work pensions if you are already recieving them.
State pension now starts for mester n me at 66…so that’s a no no…as I said before…we can claim nothing, cause we have savings…and nothing is what we get…but there can’t only be me n mester in this situation. There must be millions more…and that’s why it makes my blood boil…
The PIP questionnare asks about savings…so u fill the form in…and at the end it says…sorry u r not entitled to anything…
Ahh but you weren’t thinking about them moving to a rooftop PV just after they receive the payment so that their leccy bills go down. You know… with the nest egg they have been building from all the years of government handouts.
Consider two otherwise identical households, where one applies the self-discipline to cut back energy use and does not need the full value of a rate subsidy, while the other makes no changes to their demand pattern.
Why should the saving household not derive the benefit of their choice for their discipline? They are already indirectly subsidizing the other household, but your ideal policy would spend their money for them too. Good policy should reward the behaviour you want to see.
When you then add in the extra costs that would flow from anything but direct payment to consumers, it just doesn’t make much sense. The only administrative layer that would have any real logic would be a means test.
That should not be the case as PIP is not a means tested benefit, if you have any of the conditions that will result in an award you will get the award regardless of how much money you have
Boris Johnson rules out emergency measures to tackle cost of living | Boris Johnson | The Guardian
The prime minister’s official spokesperson said there were no plans for a Cobra meeting to address the cost of living crisis
Of course there are no plans for that. Johnson has thrown the toys out of the pram now that he has failed in keeping hold of power. Plus he probably needs to spend the remainder of his time adding a few thousand more peerages, like Dilyn the dog.
I’m somewhat surprised he doesn’t. It would be the easiest thing to do to throw the cat amongst the pigeons ahead of his successor taking over - unless he has an agreement with them already.
Ego. Its his fucking ego now. He’s having his ‘fuck you all, you deal with this mess’ moment. BJ gonna BJ.
Computers say no…and no time n time again…
Sorry to hear that, and I know it must be a pain but have you ever requested a mandatory reconsideration on any rejected claims ?
Not sure why that is such an issue, he never attended them anyway.
Surely he should hae just allowed the others to do it without him being there as per normal
If you have an electric bill or a gas bill and want to claim the £360 , give the details to the DWP, and they can transfer it straightaway, cause the do for the monthly benefit /wage.
As mester wilkored08 has just said…people who have earnt their money look after it and take care of it…people like my ‘neighbours’ expect it every month and don’t…
Have only skipped through the thread, but insulation of houses should be more of an issue. That would seem to be (government) money well spent in the long term, afaik the UK has some of the worst insulation in Western Europe.
