Nope, youâre wrong. Every government contract requires that they are procured via an open and visible tendering process. Every single one including the one that fills the vending machine in the corridor.
So how did this company get that contract? Does that company make a profit? Does that company have overheads that need to be recovered?
The fact that they have maxed the process in delivering that service is purely about maximising profit. When you work in the private sector they demand staff have high billability percentages i.e can they bill all their time?
These council workers you speak of were likely to be a private contractor. Got sent out and did a days work in half a day. Clearly a good rate for hedge cutting and they were probably paid eff all for doing that work.
Are there inefficiencies in councils NHS, Councils etc.? Absolutely. Iâve covered several of them already. Imagine a health service that didnât have banks of project managers, quantity surveyors, accountants and lawyers administering contracts? Iâd argue the ones you think are problematic are small beer in comparison to the costs of these people
And thatâs fine but if you want a âthingâ done by the private sector you need to pay for it and have a watertight contract. In the UK we get neither. The contracts are too open to abuse or manipulation and you end up paying a heap of cash for âadviceâ. Ever crossed your mind why so many Tory MPâs seem to be consultants or own consultancies? Good money to be had in dreaming up âadviceâ. Not actually giving it, just thinking about it.
Certainly under the Tories privatisation has been argued as a cost saving exercise and higher output. It isnât for reasons above and it actually results in less bang for buck a lot of the time. Itâs basically a scam. Budgets have been frozen, client costs reduced but consultant costs increase year on year.
Happy to give more details of my experience if you like.
If I havenât messaged you my own experience of government wastage (another story) let me know and I will. All governments have a stratospheric ability to waste money.
They do, but my point is that the answer does not always lie in the private sector. If you want to go that route and maintain standards then you need to be prepared to pay for it. Secondly, you also need to account for the change that doing so has on everything associated with it.
Iâve had the massive misfortune of moving elec suppliers for the business recently. Some consider my stories to be tall. Fine. Was on the phone on hold for an hour, went dead, hour and a half, went dead, half an hour, went dead. Emailed them in the end, âdue to huge demand, weâll TRY to get back to you in 20 working daysâ If you donât pay the bills and they decide to send the boys round, you have zero chance of speaking to anybody. And I promise you theyâll have far more staff working on collections than customer services.
Eat loads of (the cheapest) baked beans and collect the after effects! The rain water is free! Combine (along with copious masturbation) and youâll be fineâŠ
