Chelsea at that time made it a point to bid for players we were touted to be interested in.

The likes of Pulisic , Ziyech , Havertz etc all had some links to liverpool as well.

I’d have taken Havertz. I believe on TIA one of the older forum lads (nobluff?) actually held a Scout contest. I ended up getting a book mailed to me.

The talk about Havertz in TIA was pretty much about how he can be a backup and later replacement to Firmino.

it was the Heighwayman thread, and Broomy was the guy

I don’t remember. I do remember that I was very keen, and was convinced he wasn’t going to be a mercenary.

I’d still be interested in Pulisic although I can see why his injury history and disappointing time at Chelsea has scared us off. He is technically good and has the right attitude and is still young enough (and at ~20m cheap enough) to IMO be worth a punt if we had confidence he was fully recovered from his injuries and we could offload the likes of Thaigo or Fabinho.

We did the same with Ox…never worked out. Fantastic player, not up to it physically.

We lose Fab or Thiago and we would need another CM. Would be very worried if we were to bring someone like Pulisic in. Could also block Gordon and Doaks progress.

I read the piece in the Athletic about the breakdown in relationship with Mount and it really illustrates how badly run chelsea have been, even before the current era.

Mount was a 2 time club PotY and was on less than a third of expensive players who had come in and contributed little, and new players who had been brought in on a payment structure they were refusing to use for extensions of existing players. You do that and you create a situation where players will rightly want to go. 80k a week might be a lot in absolute terms, but who wants to stay somewhere your bosses will only pay you half or less of what your colleagues are getting while doing less than you? (Waves at Arsenal)

But even if you accept he didnt deserve that sort of payday, you still have to ask yourself how a club can be so bipolar that a 2 time PotY can find his face no longer fitting. Just as happened with Mata before him when Jose returned. This is a club where the only certainty is of high salary and broken promises.

He’s going to be their next Ozil.

They didn’t Kepa much.

Chilwell, Baba, Pulisic, Ziyech, Lukaku, Aubameyang still on their books.

Feels like Reece James and Thiago Silva are the ‘heart and soul’ of this squad of mercenaries.

Chilwell will probably stay and compete with Cucurella (I like Hall though). Pulisic on his way to Milan. I see Ziyech, Lukaku and Aubameyang all leaving. Rahman is Mourinho’s flop, can’t believe he’s still there. In the last year of his contract. Either sold or another, final loan if they can’t get a fee.

Rahman couldn’t even start regularly at Reading last season - in a squad that got relegated!

Shame they had to launch their kit without a main sponsor. Nice top though.

What’s the green bit on the two badges? Looks like a photo mistake, but it isn’t. Weird detail.

Looks like one of those shiney POG slammers.

Yeah, I imagine the material is a bit iridescent.

Credit it to Chelsea for turning down sponsorship from a gambling website. Premier League looking a bit pathetic in my mind blocking the Paramount deal. The stuff they let slide with ownership, but it’s all guns blazing when there’s a risk offending Sky!
