Daft Prick Boehly‘s Blue Billion Pound Plastic Bottlejobs

At this stage, any young player daft enough to sign for Chelsea deserves everything coming his way.

Well, they still can console themselves with all the money, mind…

Someone said that the amortization trick is still working over more than 5 years because Chelsea is not in Europe and the FA still holds on to the old rules. Do you know if that is correct?

Chelsea will have to find quite a few seats in the stands on match days, for all their players who can’t get into the squad.

Nah the agents have signed a clause in for them an their entourage to have free seats…

This whole time I thought the title of thread was ‘draft pick’ instead of Daft prick lol :joy:

it has morphed a few times

It reminds of when PSG started out - Signing Beckham and anyone else they could get at the time… Look where they have ended up
Fuck buying a shirt at that club with a named player on the back… be out of date in no time :0)

With some of these 8/9 yr contracts, there are going to be one or two of them that roll out of the pub to make it to practice by the time their contracts run down so they will keep getting paid. One of those OMG, they are still around!! kind of deals.

I hope they all do.

Yeah, it’s true that it doesn’t yet apply to the PL’s P&S rules. It will be by next season apparently, but not in time to address this first 850m worth of spending.

850m of spending :joy: :joy: :joy:

Im not 100% sure how them being out of Europe now affects how the UEFA regs apply to them, but at minimum pushing the boat out so far out now means that they are going to be constrained in the future when they do next qualify.

Saudi will come in, pay a high fee and even bigger wages etc etc etc

Didn’t know about that clause.

Bargain.

But what @Dutch has heard is surely wrong though? All clubs are governed by the UEFA rules. I don’t know if that applies to clubs in the lower leagues, but certainly to all PL clubs including Chelsea. There are plenty of examples of clubs that have been punished through FFP that were outside the European places. Take AC Milan who were in the wilderness and outside European places for the years covering their breach when they were fined in '19.

Its merely that the punishment doesn’t really have the power to change behaviour if the fined club is outside European places when the breach is enforced.

They’re basically doing what my wife does.

She’ll sell some stuff on eBay for like £100. All of that is cash in her account. Then she’ll spend £500 but put it on Klarna. She then tells me she’s spending the money she’s made selling on eBay but conveniently forgets two things.

Firstly that the stuff she’s sold cost her money in the first place. And secondly, she may have £100 to cover the cost of the first Klarna payment but there’s another 4 payments of £100 still left to cover. At which point she’ll sell some stuff on eBay. Some of that will go towards paying the current Klarna bill and the rest will be spent on something else, possibly using Klarna again and thus ensuring she’s inevitably going to have to sell some of the stuff she bought the first time round to now pay for the next lot of stuff.

What Chelsea are surely banking on is some of this young talent is going to be worth way more than they paid (and their book value in terms of amotisation at the time of sale) and so it frees them up to spend more.

But that in itself is risky. For those players values to go up, they have to play. And for you to actualise that profit, you have to then sell them. It can’t be a great way to build a team and is going to surely mean they’ll need to maintain a high volume of player trading. That costs money itself. Agent fees, signing on fees etc.

I just don’t see how it’s going to be sustainable.

Chelsea has paid inflated fees for a lot of their players. Even in these days of madness, very few players have fetch over 100m. So likes of Fofana (88m), Mudryk (76m) are unlikely to bring a windfall. Then there’s the issue of buyers. Italian clubs are broke, Madrid can possibly buy a couple, Bayern aren’t going to touch them, and selling to Cheaty or Sandcastle will strengthen the rivals.
