What is Musk’s game?

Does he really believe the shit he says? Or is it part of a ploy for world domination?

I see Trump kicking him to touch in the next few months, as he won’t share a platform with anyone. In fact, just for the interest of it all, I’d love a proper falling out to take place, where Musk tries to use his fortune and media platform to fight Trump.

The only things Trump loves as much as himself is someone with money, someone with power, or both.

Musk has plenty of the first and even Trump has to take notice of the amount of money Muak invested in him.

It’s why he hasn’t blown a gasket yet.

This piece about Trump’s team involved in yet another difficult transition.

https://www.politico.com/news/2024/12/18/federal-officials-nervous-about-sending-data-to-trump-transition-private-emails-00195217

In 2016 they were so unprepared to win they didnt have a transition team in place so the Obama team on the other end were left hanging for pretty much the entire period. In 2020 they didnt engage with the Biden team because of Trump’s insistence he didn’t lose. Now their questionable security practices is again obstructing the work that needs to be done to get the Trump team ready to operate on day 1 fully apprised of all that is happening.

These transitions are a logistical nightmare and historically have been best conducted by people with deep experience of the executive office, and who have managed a transition before. The unstated bit of this story means that even if we have fair elections in 2028 and a Dem gets back into office, it will have been 20 years since we had a proper transition. Even if we assume the Trump team participants properly this time, by then the institutional memory of how to do it properly will be gone.

Our Country is a disaster, a laughing stock all over the World! This is what happens when you have OPEN BORDERS, with weak, ineffective, and virtually nonexistent leadership. The DOJ, FBI, and Democrat state and local prosecutors have not done their job. They are incompetent and corrupt, having spent all of their waking hours unlawfully attacking their political opponent, ME, rather than focusing on protecting Americans from the outside and inside violent SCUM that has infiltrated all aspects of our government, and our Nation itself. Democrats should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen to our Country. The CIA must get involved, NOW, before it is too late. The USA is breaking down - A violent erosion of Safety, National Security, and Democracy is taking place all across our Nation. Only strength and powerful leadership will stop it. See you on January 20th. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

Trump using a deadly terrorist attack to promote his agenda and score points.

He is right about one thing though: The US are a laughing-stock for having elected a clown to lead them again.

Remarkable yet predictable that his response to two incidents both involving American-born culprits is to blame open borders.

Nazi playbook 101.

Fuck me. The next 4 years are a frightening proposition for many Americans, myself included. I have two twenty-something daughters that have started wonderful careers, and I fear for them as well. My older daughter is gay, and engaged to her longtime partner. My wife won’t hear of moving abroad. Life could become WAY too stressful here for this old man. All I have now are hopes and prayers, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to try and get this country back on track.

I wish I could tell you that things would be better somewhere else. Unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated American phenomenon, it’s been happening worldwide.

Yep, my sense is Canadian politics are about to take a dark turn - likely darker than Poilievre intends as the main proponent of that turn. For the first time in my life, really the entire post-war era, the consensus on immigration has collapsed. During that time, there have been concerns about race, but the fundamental idea of welcoming immigrants has been a shared view, and it simply no longer is.

Welcome to the club. In Europe, I think that you have to go back to the pre-WW1 era to find a general consensus on not having problems with immigration from abroad.

Of course, the American continent has stood a long time for free immigration, especially for people coming from Europe. But that is obviously over.

The basic problem here is that the Federal government turned the taps up immediately post-2020 (2020-2021 is not quite double 2019-20), when the fundamentals were really suggesting that there would be challenges sustaining the current level. Then refugee admissions spiked, and suddenly we have a housing crisis. Our inflation has not been as dramatic as the US, our monetary policy reeled it in earlier, but the two largest areas are food and housing. That is not a great recipe for working people to accept newcomers, but as we have seen in the US, it is a pretty good recipe for populism.

It is notable that even though it is now clear the NO attack was done by a US born citizen, the GOP establishment continue pushing the angle of immigrant crime and the need to close the border.

We used to be a lot smarter about how spun tragedies to push a political agenda.

It is just an extension of the nativism that is in ascendancy. He may be American-born, but he is not a ‘real American’. In a very real way, it would have been better for him to actually have been an immigrant, because the narrative he builds is that 2nd-generation is every bit as suspect.

A lot of people with the wrong skin colour are going to see more friction in their daily lives - I recall living in the US during the first Gulf War, and a Sikh student (born in the US) was dealing with a lot of ‘hi Saddam’ nonsense, being shouted at from passing cars and the like.
