I believe the usual starting offer is two necklaces of shiny beads and a blanket apiece.
Only if the blanket has cooties.
Iām sure it was another perfect call
I think the Danes need to get out their inner vikings. The worst thing they could do is to cave in to that bully.
The problem here is that Trump is reaching into what was already a situation with real tension, around the desire for Greenland independence. For a sizable number of Greenlanders, the only thing that truly ties them to Denmark is fiscal dependence.
The choice between being Danish citizen, and profiting from its welfare state, and becoming another native tribe in the US who will be exploited and pushed around in order to extract oil and minerals, seems a relatively simple one for me.
There is surely no big love lost between Greenland and Kopenhagen, but Trump has just made it very clear that there canāt be genuine independence for them anyway. If they donāt entertain their existing ties ties with Denmark, theyāll inevitably come under direct US influence. In their shoes, Iād be very frightened about that prospect.
Personally I think the Danish should sell Greenland.
Canada is itās closest neighbour so would be the perfect option for a logical and trusted buyer
MAGAs: Greenlanders love us. They are welcome to become American
American Samoans: Hi, over here! [Waves]
MAGAs: [Ignores Samoans]
Guamanians and Chamorros: Uh, weāve been waiting for that for over 100 years
MAGAs: Yay Greenland
Puerto Ricans: WTF!
MAGAs: You can can fuck right off
Never go full US
The situation is ripe for exploitation. Itās amazing that we are living in such times when incoming heads of state can just talk so openly and brazenly about the sovereign lands they would like to acquire.
We are appalled that Putin has done this with Ukraine and others. We are outraged that China might do it with Taiwan. But Trump is no different.
If I were the Danish govenment right now Iād put this on X:
I always thought that Nineteen Eighty Four was a dystopian novel about a future in which the world is divided into warring totalitarian blocks; Eurasia, Oceania, Eastasia.
Turns out it was a blueprint for 21st century diplomacy.
This story was back in circulation today, in honour of President Carterās funeral.
They were a different people then.
Bit of a surprise that Trumps hand picked, partly,Supreme Court wouldnāt block his sentencing.
Still little hope that democracy will still prevail after Jan 20.but it is a crumb, and of course the felon will be spitting chips!
