I’m sure.
Although, had we decided to you know, use democracy to vote for a Communist in West Germany - I think we all know what would’ve happened.
The US has been meddling in internal affairs all around the world.
I can still remember when we tried to explain to you a few years ago during the Brexit discussion that building up an EU army might make sense at some point. There was a lot of resistance and incomprehension here. But… a lot has happened since then.
Would you say that this applies to Canada as well?
Just want to say the free speech stuff I keep hearing from the extreme right is silly. It does not withstand the slightest scrutiny. They do not believe in free speech, at all! They believe in lying out their arses, without scrutiny or fact check. They believe in silencing opposing voices, deplatforming them, and firing them. They believe in suppressing the free press. One tiny example, the AP has been banned from the White House because it is not calling it the Gulf of America. What a joke, from the free speech champions!
It is baloney for the extreme right to then point the finger at Europe and say it does not have free speech. Look at any freedom of the press measure, for example, and America ranks far below Western European countries in terms of free speech.
The issue at heart appears to be that Europe objects to free speech meaning the freedom to lie, smear, vilify, hate and mislead the masses without consequence.
Europe wants that sort of shit to be constrained, by fact checking and media standards, and some basic laws, thus not allowing ‘anything goes’ on various media and social media.
Europe should rightly reject being lectured about free speech by a fascist-leaning government in the United States that is suppressing free speech at every turn.
If Europe means places like Hungary, the values are aligned with America. If we are talking about France, Germany, and so many others, the values between America and Europe are less aligned than I have seen in my lifetime.
Canada’s situation is in some ways more complex. Moving away from the US in terms of defence integration would be destabilizing - NORAD is a critical part of American defence thinking and the two radar warning lines are a key element of NORAD. At the same time, we cannot really offer much to support Europe’s potential geopolitical challenges from Russia and America, really more of a liability along both axes. But economically, it would seem opening up to China to decrease our dependence on the US economy would make a great deal of sense.
Depends what was said does it not?
What the fuck does this have to do with foreign policy ? It’s only pure nonsense Culture War. Russia, Saudi Arabia and China which these devil fuckers prostrate themselves before, have a million times more authoritarian laws. Besides, this is nonsense anyway, and you proudly retweet and support this ?
What the fuck is wrong with you ? Do you have a brain cell left or are you choking so hard on Vance’s culture warrior cock that there is no oxygen left in your brain ? How the hell can you retweet this without negative commentary ? What the hell is wrong with you ?
These are the same people that lose their fucking minds over some trans books.
And Vance blathers on with his abominable culture war nonsense and claims this is some sort of horrific crime that justifies the US leaving Europe. It is the drivel of an imbecile. These sons of bitches have no problem with Israel, Saudi Arabia, now Russia and China, but THIS, this is bad ? What the serious fuck !
And Toro reposts this without commentary ? It brands him an imbecile, a thoughtless idiot, when he does so.
The Chinese navy is already operating in the Northern Passage. And it ain’t to strengthen relations with Canada.
I post it without comment so you can understand the current thinking of the US administration. Next time I’ll include “Here is what the American administration is thinking re free speech.” I mean it should be obvious and shouldn’t evoke such an emotional meltdown.
WE FUCKING KNOW THE THINKING OF THE US ADMINISTRATION !!!
How the hell did you not get the memo ? It’s absolute idiocy of you to think that this, surface garbage is unknown to most of us. You brand yourself a thoughtless imbecile.
This is bad. (I hope this comment satisfies everyone who melts down when someone posts something without comment.)

No, agreed. Relations right now are poor. We have been pushed into conflict with China by the US. As recently as this weekend, HMCS Ottawa went through the Taiwan Strait, tweaking the Chinese. I don’t know why we are doing that now, though nothing against the Taiwanese.
NATO is dead. It is really just that simple. If Article V doesn’t apply to a Russian invasion of Europe (more or less what it was originally intended to do), there is no NATO. Americans may as well pack up their offices at Leopold Avenue and head home. Up to the EU if they want to move a European defence agency into the offices.
You know, fuck what us Germans feel, really sorry for the people in the Baltics, Poland etc. Once again fucked over by everyone.
Freedom of speech is protected under the German constitution:
(1) Every person shall have the right freely to express and disseminate his opinions in speech, writing and pictures and to inform himself without hindrance from generally accessible sources. Freedom of the press and freedom of reporting by means of broadcasts and films shall be guaranteed. There shall be no censorship.
(2) These rights shall find their limits in the provisions of general laws, in provisions for the protection of young persons and in the right to personal honour.
(3) Arts and sciences, research and teaching shall be free. The freedom of teaching shall not release any person from allegiance to the constitution.
What is that limitation? It translates as “malicious gossip” and is essentially equivalent to libel or slander - something that is untrue.
Section 186
Malicious gossip (üble Nachrede)Whoever asserts or disseminates a fact about another person which is suited to degrading that person or negatively affecting public opinion about that person, unless this fact can be proved to be true
The equivalent in the US law would be “False statement of fact”. The difference is that the only people capable of pursuing this in the US are people rich enough to afford lawyers. And those that are rich enough to employ lawyers can sue people for saying things that are true, but that they don’t like, simply because most people do not have the financial resources to fight back.
