Why doesnât the EU / UK etc respond and insist that for any govenment contracts a company has to ensure it IS promoting diversity, equity and inclusion or they wonât be able to bid?

Everytime I think about trying to climb the career ladder, either in my civilian or military life, something comes up that reminds me that being âhigher upâ actually just means youâre even more of a bitch for the company/organization youâre in than you were before.
The âVice-President of the North-Eastâ having to come to a meeting I was in and try to make an embarrassingly bad policy enforced by corporate into a good thing. I was cringing for him.
Then I see military leadership, some of whom I know from personal conversations absolutely disagree with this administration, having to smile and pose while the politicians use them as props. At least I was able to opt out of the Susan Collins photo-op when that came up last year. I think that wouldnât have been an option if I had decided to go down the officer path.

I might not be thinking deep enough into this, but isnât this more about optics than actually applying the law?
Basically leave a strong enough anti-DEI odour on American companies that anyone who appreciates those values or needs those protections will steer clear of said companies?
