Watching Mamdani bring people together in NYC and work effectively to fix things for New Yorkers, as a democratic socialist, is a threat to the extreme right. The younger generation is on board with those policies too - notwithstanding a smaller radical right young conservative sort of movement.
The point being, America is ready for democratic socialist policies inasmuch as they give more people a fair shake at building a life and not falling through the cracks.
The billionaire class, and for that matter people well below that who are doing fine with the current system, want to keep the status quo.
So here we go. Let’s wheel out the threat of communism. The word resonates with many Americans, and unfortunately, if they get the messaging right, it will gain traction even if that’s not what they are railing against, at all.
They need an idea to catch on as the grift and scandal is such that many millions are turned off and they will lose handily, if there is another free and fair election.
It needs a clear enemy. Communism it is.

How it played out sums the whole governance up perfectly.
Trump is just setting this up to have ICE show up and detain the “illegal immigrant” and revoke his birthright citizenship.

Voting was already underway when the ICE agents arrived at a polling site in Syracuse, New York, during the state’s primaries in June. The agents were there to see Paigelynne Gonyea, a poll worker who says they were concerned about an Instagram post she had supposedly made in January “doxing” an ICE agent. The only post she could find was one she had made crediting the Minnesota Star Tribune for identifying Jonathan Ross, the ICE agent who shot and killed Renee Good during the federal incursion in Minneapolis this winter, and calling for his indictment.
The agents at the poll site asked Gonyea to sign a warning notice that said it was unlawful to “threaten to assault, kidnap and/or murder” federal officials or their immediate family members in an effort to impede that federal official’s work. The form also requested that she remove her post “and/or discontinue” her behavior.
“My signature would have been an admission of guilt,” Gonyea says. “I refused to sign it.”
