Arthur can sort of be compared more to a move like Sahin, who Rodgers didn’t use well, played him too far up the pitch. And possibly also more on the way down and not a great fit for this league. At the time of signing them though, I was more happy with us getting Sahin than Arthur. Chelsea got Zakaria on loan. That would’ve maybe been a better comparison than some serious permanent transfers, even if he wasn’t great either, but could’ve been more useful than Arthur? Just throwing a name I can remember first from this season. The moves for Kabak and Davies can be compared to a move when we got Kyrgiakos late in the window in necessity, with limited finances, out of nowhere when he almost retired in Greece.
I don’t think Botman was available though the guy from Marseille “Carr” was on the plane apparently.
Don’t think we were interested in either. We signed Kabak and Ben on loan and then we bought Konate in the summer.
Luckily we avoided that one.
Yep at the time even blind Freddy (me) criticised signing a player who wasn’t fit for a short term loan. Once again thosr eye-ties have pulled out pants down over signing a sicknote. Still haven’t gotten over Alberto fucking Aqualani.
That makes it worse. If something was unforeseen then at least there is a mea culpa
I am probably in the minority (or only one) here who thought Arthur was a “medium risk, high reward” sort of signing.
Though I didn’t watch the requisite 10 games to judge the player, I was pretty excited by the signing. Former Barca player, quite highly rated but fell victim to the circumstances at the club. Then available at a reasonable fee due to the situation at Juventus. Thought of it like a replacement or rotational signing for Thiago.
Then the plan started falling apart. First, the unfortunate injury he sustained during training. Second, little to no playing time available as the team was performing badly and Klopp went back to his trusted lieutenants.
Looking back, yes, the likes of Douglas Luiz and Macalister should have been targeted instead. But I also recalled how many here were against these two signings, particularly Luiz. Some even said Luiz would not even be worth it on a free transfer this coming summer.
The club took an admittedly big calculated risk and failed this time. While lessons should be learned, it should also not stop the club from making opportunistic signings again. I also feel Arthur lost out the most here. He put in the effort in a bid to get his career on track but it just has not gone right for him. I wish him all the best.
Eye-ties???
Really? (Shakes my head in disbelieve)
I made some angry hand gestures in disbelieve
I know, the correct term is WOPS or Guineas.
Well wog is too generic. If English cna be called poms; Irish leprechauns and Americans Yanks then Italians can be called eye-ties.
Come over here and call me a leprechaun!
I hope no Italians are reading this thread…
Why not? Don’t they want to be shown how to make a proper espresso?
Someone called me out a while back for referring to Minamino as our Jap and yet their car industry hold Japfest every year in the UK.
He is a Jap…I am a Brit.
Come on lads, lets move pasta all this.
Shall we maybe leave the casual xenophobia out of this thread, and the forum generally?
He is going to earn a move with us as he is going to score a hat trick every single game from now on, coming on for just the last 15 minutes every game.
