Bobby will always be a Liverpool player, he’s just no longer under contract.

He’s still on the Calender for this month

Disgusting decision by him. It just shows our club has the same sort of absolute revolting narcisists who cares about nothing but their own wallet at the cost all decency, that most other clubs have in the Premier League, so lest you have some romantic delusions, dispel them now.
Just in case anyone wants to debate my opinion of this move, I am not interested. I have my opinion and set of ethics and no one here will change it with whataboutism or anything like that, which is quite typical of fans in love with players to peddle by the way.
I’ll leave this thread now. Hopefully for good.

Yup.
He must be struggling a bit, having only earned £48 million in the past 5 years.
Rather saw him with a team like Roma or Sevilla but at the end of the day he must do what he thinks is best for his family.
He is in his thirties now and coming from where he comes from it’s for me understandable that he made that choice.
I wish him nothing but the best …

Enjoy the pieces of gold Bobby. Maybe one day you will reflect but I really doubt it somehow. Personal greed usually overcomes any principles.

Did we really think that an ex-Liverpool player would categorically reject Saudi compared to other players going there, because of… what exactly?

does seem odd that a man who is such a big member of the god squad, who goes around preaching about being a better person and values etc…can suddenly forget all he beleives and principles for the something bigger than his almighty god…the almighty dollar.
It’s more that we still care what Bobby does. None of us are concerned what Benzema or Kante do, but we have an emotional attachment to Firmino.
All these players are already multi millionaires, it’s not as if they have no choice.

Who actually said they thought no Liverpool player would go to Saudi?
Nobody, as far as I can tell.

Thanks for the sermon then. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
If Firmino’s causing a big hooha with some of the fanbase, imagine if Gerrard goes to Saudi afterall. He is now rumoured to be back at negotiation table again after initially rejecting them and now he rejected the Wednesday job…
Personally I thought that what some of our fans here said is correct, these players and ex players have the luxury of choice. They are not in a position where they are desperate for money. However, the money that the Saudis are offering could be multi generational wealth. Everyone looks at money differently. But at the end of the day, its a job. Are footballers doing their job in Saudi any worse than any foreigners who work in a private company in Saudi? There are millions of them, are these people accessories to the accusations leveled at the Saudis? At the end of the day, everyone can take a position based on your own values, culture, beliefs etc and that should be respected and that is how the players decisions should be respected.

If Saudi Arabia will change… it won’t be through isolation. In fact isolation will only make the current ruling family stronger and more determined.
I’m not saying that Firmino has some noble mission by going to Saudi Arabia, but I think an influx of foreign values (possibly through sport and other culture) can have a slow but positive impact on a country.
Much as we love current and former players, it would be like trying to find a strand of straw in an enormous bale of needles to come up with one who’s main motivation is not money.
Saudi Arabia along with the rest of oil-rich gulf states only function because of the massive amounts of foreigners they’ve employed over the decades. Whatever progress they make will continue at a snail’s pace regardless of their sportswashing projects IMO.

But if you’ve already earnt more money than you could ever spend, you could at least try to apply some principles.

Most major current players went to Qatar. Very little protest against a similar regime to Saudi.
But we want individuals to rail against unimaginable wealth, when the World Cup was actually allowed to happen?
I really hoped for an end to oil corruption in football, but the City/Newcastle model has only whetted their appetite.
So Bobby?
£10 million over two years in the sunshine…or West Ham or The corruption of Paris/Madrid…
Agree on the snails pace… But over 20 to 30 years it will make a difference.
With the outcry over the World Cup in Qatar, I do believe that should similar events take place in the future… that a conversation about human rights will at least come up.
Firmino confirmed at Al-Ahli, 3-year deal.
