We did have the best striker and the best midfielder in the world at the time.

And Flanagan at LB.

Àll the more reason to play reserves - being all in to win the PL is worth much more than the milk cup.

But what about the unlimited supply of Chinese energy drinks the winner gets?

And the strategic approach of a honey badger… ATTACK!!!

Absolutely Suarez was the man, but it was the combination of the SSS partnership plus Stevie, Hendo and Phil that almost did it.

The fact that Eto’o didn’t get sent off for that lunge at Stamford Bridge still pisses me off, ten years later.

Webb really shafted us that season.

Win the fucking lot

I’m not going to argue about how the results went, but I’ll thank you for not deciding how I personally felt about our chances that season. Which I can remember quite well.

We had a great start and beat United quite early. To me it felt like we were in a title race.

Same for Rodgers season.

If City fuck up today (even a draw will do) I’ll allow myself to dream.

Otherwise , the bookies having both us and Arsenal at 3/1 behind City ( evens ) sounds about right.

This is a “narrative”. They’re actually just a series of standalone games.

From what I remember, December was often a very strong month for us under Klopp.

When it seemed difficult due to obvious circumstances; schedule, injuries, etc. We often found a way of picking up a lot of points.

I like to look where we are after matchday 10, then around half a season at matchday 19/turn of the year, then where we are with 10-13 games to go. Plus, what’s our points’ average also.

You can reasonably expect us to have a slump around Feb, same as every year. If we’re still in with a shout by March I’ll be happy

I thought it was January when we have our annual slump but maybe the memory escapes me… Still, I’ve firmly established “one game at a time” mentality but as soong as we drop points, I’ll have a look at our fixture list and then start preaching about our imminent doom. :joy:

We are due either:

1, Everything comes together, all the out of form players rediscover their mojo, and we give someone a sound beating. Or
2, Our poor form is found out, we fail to produce a late revival, and we are beaten badly.

Can’t decide which is more likely.

I’m less gung ho. I’ll be happy if we’re still on the mix in June; that’s when I’ll start getting hopeful.

Just to clarify, in case my posting history hasn’t made it clear, the league is fixed, and Webb’s actions that day were a key part of our not winning the title that season.

What I was objecting to in the other thread was the normalisation of the narrative and the ready acceptance by so many fans, especially relatively new ones, of the storyline.

We haven’t been anywhere near our best. Hopefully our form improves and we get some convincing wins as well.

All the other teams fancy going a go against us and that’s not what a team aspiring for 1st should be.

Would be nice if we could field a fantastic player like Thiago again.
