I can obviously google, but prefer to hear it from you.

On the northern isles there are bonfires and the like, which ties into their norse origins. However, a lot of celebrations are now related to neo-pagan and wiccan practitioners.

I used to be a member of Historic Scotland and took photos of their sites, particularly neolithic ones. I was up at the Ring of Brodgar one summer, although that tends to be more associated with the winter solstice (Maeshowe is aligned to the Winter Solstice, similar to Newgrange in Ireland).

Closer to where we lived was Cainpapple Hill, and some people would gather at sunset on the night before and hold an overnight vigil with music, dancing and a fair bit of drinking (it is Scotland after all). The sunrise on solstice day could then be observed from the hill.

I did think that I had some pictures on my phone, but I can’t find them immediately.

That’s Cainpapple:

I think that’s actually just before sunrise, but you can’t tell on that image.

Happy Father’s Day to the dads in here, and also Happy Solstice, the arrival of summer.
