FIFA World Cup 2026 - USA/Canada/Mexico (Part 2)

Did you see both games? I went to bed at half-time of Senegal-Belgium. Gutted for them too.

Do the US deserve their win? How did they play?

Senegal were one of my sweepstakes so bit of gutted.

Croatia the sole survivor and I would have said they were going be the last one at the start.

Bosnia were terrible.

I only watched the Senegal game and then watched the highlights of Bosnia v USA. To be fair, USA were by far the better team, more well organised, better players with an experienced manager.

I felt Senegal were the much better team for about 85 minutes, but Lukaku had that bit of luck and football gods were on Belgium’s side.

Morning all, still a bit bummed out about Senegal. Definitely the Mane connection otherwise their behaviour at AFCON and also that penalty would have completely put me off.

Still annoyed at that stupid goalkeeper.

African teams dropping like flies now.

I think you´d have said before that Morocco and Ivory Coast were their best chance.

I was glad to see Belgium win because of Senegal´s antics and also because an Argentinian i know said she wants the European teams to lose. Solidarity!

I remember someone here saying that there is a confidence issue with a lot of the African nations. It does ring true because if you look at their footballing abilities they match up very well and in a lot of attacking areas actually supercede a lot of the European teams and most of the south americans except Brazil Argentina and Colombia.

Could be that.

I don´t think the Africans are quite THAT good. No real superstars there, but they have talent enough to get results.

I think they´re not as good when the game slows down potentially. Chaos and energy combined with their skill is their style and best way to win. They´re not so ´pragmatic´

Spot on! Without a bit of chaos and instability they lack something. When they all fly forward in attack, though, it is fun to watch as a neutral!

Also they are quite profligate with their finishing.

Yeah neither Mane nor Salah are the forces they once used to be.

I like it though because in a world where teams are converging in style, it´s nice to see national or regional variety.

yeah exactly, those are the two and no real world class players at any other African team.

Totally agree! Getting tired of watching the same old style repeated everywhere. I liked a bit of Senegal chaos, a bit of Colombian street fight!

North Africans put value on tekkers/individual tricks and you can see them pulling them off in matches. There were a few that the Moroccan’s did that made the Dutch defenders look like mugs.

I made a big mistake last night. I was watching the Belgium game and at 2-0, I couldn’t see any way back for them. So I went to bed with 10 minutes of the game remaining, woke up at 7am and saw the result.

@WooltonRed you KNOW 2-0 is the most dangerous score in all of football!! Makes the leading team feel too safe and is not daunting enough to demoralise the losing team.

Its not chaos. Its spontaneous creativity. I write on African football.

The big challenge is finding the middle ground. Most African coaches struggle with this, while the European imports often default in the other direction.

I wonder what DRC would’ve looked like had they the Ivorien players.

I think football needs a new model of the game.

May not have been a mistake Woolers. It depends on who was waiting in bed.

US tv still fuming with the red card. I just can’t see the controversy at all it’s a clear red card.

In fairness to the Americans though it is being confused by Mark Clattenberg openly saying it was wrong to give a red. This is the same Mark Clattenberg that has stood with the referee decision every other time but suddenly when its the US getting a red card he outright says it is a wrong decision.

The only wrong decision would have been not red carding him.

All of the arguments are about intent, which is a required element of Violent Conduct. It just isn’t for Serious Foul Play. I am surprised to see Pochettino trying on an argument about it being an accident

Does Mike Pence have the courage to overturn the ban?

Point is that its incidental contact. His foot had to come down in a routine football duel between two players. Its not that he threw a tackle…

:frowning:
DR Congo coach Sébastien Desabre was informed of his father’s passing shortly before the start of the match against England. The coach decided to remain on the bench and lead the team even after receiving the news.
