FIFA World Cup 2026 - USA/Canada/Mexico (Part 2)

Successive erroneous passes by defenders led to another Swiss goal.

My word, how did Fabian Rieder miss that sitter?

Good morning

Pity he doesn’t have Sadio’s determination, drive, and work ethic.

Well that was an eventful second half last night.

Shame, it was close in the end.

I have no issues with Portugal’s penalty, there was enough for the ref to call it. Even before the VAR check, the way Vlasic ā€œdefendedā€ Veiga just wasn’t good enough.

With a few disallowed goals though, on first sight at the replays, I felt they were goals. But just gonna have to trust the technology and that’s it.

The final goal is a bit problematic as it’s easily possible that Matanovic’s hair touched the ball (the technology showed there was small contact), but the ball didn’t change direction nor rotation.

That was a very good second half from us, but also some very poor defending of set-pieces and long balls in general in our box. Which isn’t the case since yesterday, it’s been one of our weak points for a while now.

Overall, I can live with getting out of the group and going out against Portugal on fine margins. But also, in general, we didn’t show that much in this tournament. It all came a bit too late and we got lost more than you’d hope with selection decisions.

I decided to head to bed at the half. Overall, I expected better from Algeria. The Swiss rose to the occasion, Algeria really didn’t

Sounds like Jurgen has forgotten a lot of liverpool games then…

They“re actually not that confident overall, the Spanish.

I think they know that it“s not anywhere near the super team they had years ago and a lot of their talent is still quite young. Could their CBs handle the French dynamism and skill? Debatable.

They have Lamal but they their LW and striker isn“t of the same calibre, despite being good players.

Lets be honest, Austria are pap, still fielding 60 year old Arnautovic (very good player back in the day) as arguably a key man.

They have a fairly comfortable path to a semi final though. Absolutely unlikely to be favoured against France but if they got through that then they’d probably be at worst 50-50 in the final.

He’s had to…for his sanity

Is Nico Williams still recovering?

Yeah that“s the risk.

quick and a good goalscorer though.

For me he“s not a great dribbler and I am not sure about his creating for others, but definitely a goal threat.

He’s about to explode. I wrote earlier that he should stay a further year at Freiburg, but it’s almost certain now that he’ll be picked up by a big club. So, yes, one worthy to look at.

This cup needs a shock…

I would love it to be Paraguay vs France.

Paraguay looked decent so far. Surprised Brighton let Enciso go.

The new Salvador CabaƱos.

Australia to play Ghana in the Q/F.

Is that enough of a shock?
