That’s the problem…

Playing Ecuador has not been fun for the Germans, they will be bruised for days

Playing in a phone booth around the Ecuadorian penalty box.

Ecuador are playing as if they are fighting for their lives.

Which they are. They need to win the match to move to the next stage. (Can’t say the same about Scotland yesterday, unfortunately.)

They are doing that, too—they are playing for the coach. It was said that he would be fired if they lost.

I think Ecuador have got this.

Well, in any case, this match has wiped out whatever little euphoria existed here. For us, simply making it out of the group stage is already a success.

That really wasn’t good. Sorry Scotland!

Well done Ecuador. A match between the confirmed group winners, and a decent side on the cusp of going out and fighting for their lives. Well, they fought, and got the win. Their euphoria is clear for all to see. Fair play.

Well done Ecuador, they really put in a shift

Ecuador deserves it. Got behind so quickly but absolutely left everything on the pitch and win the game.

Nagelsman fucked it up royally on this one… utter shitshow of a teamsheet

not to get started on his subs

It’s tricky. Germany had the group won. They could finish no higher, or lower, than first. Ecuador were the ones with it all to play for.

I would imagine Germany will get the team spot on for the round of 32.

I have to applaud Ecuador   . They fought every battle against the might Germany and and they never gave up.
The players and fans emotional state are incredible. It feels they won the World Cup.

That’s the problem they didn’t have to put the effort in, if top of the group was on the line perhaps.

Yes but likely to crash out after that round.

Anyhow Gakpo and Isak come on lads

To be fair, I think Germany already qualified and topped the group. They didn’t have much to play for really.

They will probably be more assertive against a stronger opposing team.

Maybe, let’s see. In a way similar to England with an underwhelming performance, but in England’s case the group is not won yet and the third match is to be played.

Overall I think the group stage does not have enough jeopardy for the big boys, so you will likely see an iffy performance here and there, while they still qualify just fine.

Whether or not that mini ‘break’ helps or hinders in the quest for the big prize remains to be seen.

As it stands for the 3rd placed teams.
