I like it being a fan of the more traditional looking guitars. Personally I’d go for a HSS strat if I was buying one because a single coil bridge pickup in a Strat can be a bit weedy and redundant as a result.
Guitars are so personal though so go with what you like. The thing about a Fender is that you will have no problem selling it on if it turns out you don’t get on with it for some reason.
Pretty much my thinking but they have some nice Tele style guitars with some promising looking pickups complete with cool taps. You can also get one with a Bigsby if that took your fancy.
Depends on what you intend to learn. I started on an Acoustic because I wanted to play and sing at the same time. I’ve done a few solo gigs and played in a gigging band for a while but I had to knock that on the head because I found it difficult to commit to while working full time. Before lockdown I would try to get out to a pub “session” in one of our local bars, maybe once a week. Basically anyone can turn up with or without an instrument and play along, join in, do a few solo numbers or just sit and have a beer and listen. The stuff played could be traditional Irish music, blues, country, rock, almost anything really.
You can learn basic guitar chords on almost anything, an electric will be easier on your fretting hand because of a generally narrower neck, smaller body and lower string action. The main reason people give up learning is because it literally beats the crap out of your fingers, hands and even forearms. Assuming you are right handed it’s the fingers of your left hand that will give you the trouble, they will refuse to do what you want and you believe that the chords you are trying to fret are impossible. They will sound like shit too but if you keep at it, practice every day it will come and all of a sudden your fingers will be able to do what you want. You have to persevere with it no matter which instrument type you choose, your determination is more important than the guitar you pick I believe.
Cheers ill have a look for a HSS strat.
Acoustic because its all about breaking in the strength of the fingers, its more pain than technic at first.
Cant find any decent ones about
Thanks ill take a look
HSS probably better but I like the look of this one.

HSS Strat = Sin
I have found I just won’t use the bridge pick up on a traditional 3 single coil guitar. Again that’s just me. given the choice I would buy a Tele anyway
True but this the 80’s we’re talking about here. Didn’t Fender come up with those smooth topped pickups at that time? They didn’t look right to me.
What the noiseless ones? That defeat the 60hz buzz, yeah think so.
Mind you, Gilmour plays a HSS strat, he just has a SD Hotrail in the bridge.
I replaced the PUPS for custom shop 69s and my Strat bridge would cut through Spetsnaz.
Sambora too.
Did John Norum play one too? Certainly played a Strat at times.
Hmm this ticks some boxes
Yeah thats a real nice one, not sure about the humbuckers for me, but its your call…
