I’ll have a bitter please...It’s the Everton thread

Anyway , this present everton recruitment reminds me of Fulham whenever they come to the PL. Their purchases almost entirely consist of attacking midfielders and forwards and not a lot of defensive reinforcements.

Inevitably, Fulham gets relegated (which was a shame for them as they are capable of playing good attacking football) , The same hopefully will happen to the bitters.

Everton FC are best known as being used as the perfect example of the saying “Some will just never learn.”

Well that’s off the pitch, on the pitch they’re best known for being the most disappointing club in English history.

To quote Kenwright and his epic statement

“One very famous football club said to me two or three days ago 'whenever we have a problem we say ‘what would the Everton board do because they always get it right?’”

How would Fwank line up the Everton team. He’s got to be under huge pressure to play Alli and VDB.

Either way, there’s far too much deadweight in that squad and not enough defensive quality. Hopefully a prickford blunder gets them relegated on the last day of the season.

He likes his 3421 formation doesn’t he do I reckon DCL drops out and Alli and Donny play behind Richarlison.

Mina Godfrey & Keane back 3 maybe.

Last summer Everton’s spending was restricted because of FFP rules (even though City seem to get away with it). If you remember, they have spent in excess of £500 million on players, over the past few years. That’s why Rafa had virtually no budget to spend.

I think he did a 4-3-3 at Chelsea. Maybe because that was the formation that was given to him by Sarri.

Doesn’t have the defenders though. They should have moved on the likes of Coleman and Holgate ages ago. No CB’s , their best wingback / creator sold… and the back wingbacks are crap. He might just crowd the bodies in defense because apart from that , he’'s got nothing else tactically to offer.

Both Ali and VdB is interesting because as everyone is commenting on, it’s difficult to see how he gets them both in the side. Frank’s best period was when his side largely picked itself so it will be interesting to see how me makes sense of what he’s inherited here and how he’s already added to that confusion.

                   Pickford
      Holgate, Keane, Mina,

Coleman, Iwobi
Allan, Doucoure
VdB
Alli Richaralison

EDIT: Lol, no idea why its done that with the formatting, but it’s everton so it makes sense.

We’ll see which formation he picks, maybe it’s 4 at the back, maybe it’s 3.

Pickford in goal.

Coleman will probably still start at RB, potentially Patterson gets a look if they play with wing backs in a formation with 3.

Probably Keane and Mina at CB. Joined by one of Holgate/Godfrey if they start with 3. Since Mykolenko is just in, Godfrey might cover also at LB, in which case Branthwaite goes from their 5th choice CB to their 4th choice. We’ll see if Gbamin is also an option if they play 3 at the back, but he doesn’t seem to be physically ready.

Going forward to the next two lines, that’s where it’s stacked.

Allan is their only real defensive midfielder, but big question mark is can he play the single pivot role, my guess is probably not. Which means getting Doucoure back fit will be vital. Donny might play a bit deeper, see how he does in a double-pivot. Gomes needs rhythm. You still have backups like Davies and Delph. Those might suffer.

Alli obviously competes more as a single #10 or between the lines as one of the two around the main striker.

Richarlison is probably best as either the left sided inside forward or playing with Calvert-Lewin up top, but that would mean playing 4-4-2, which I don’t think will happen. So he probably just goes out to the left. Then, with Mykolenko at LB, their LCM will have to provide balance. Again, a question for the likes of Allan, Doucoure, Donny, Gomes.

Other options from the sides will probably remain as they are, Townsend playing off the right, Gray playing off the left (Gray perhaps might threaten Townsend’s position on the right if Richarlison plays on the left), Gordon coming on both sides, Iwobi maybe playing some bits where they have holes, anywhere he’s asked to play.

Reading your post it looks like no thought has been given to the squad already there.

This could be fun…

Yeah, was chatting on Whatsapp with a mate back home who’s an everton fan and he likened it to the mess at Utd they kept compounding - every solution you find to the problem presented by Pogba, and then Pogba and Fernandes, and then P, F, and Ronaldo, creates another problem downstream.

It’s a result of so many changes in last years, new players, having numerically a lot of players, but quality wise is the question. Like a United of lower level.

Does the recent news that Moshri increased his stake in the club give them some more cash as well?

They always have money. It’s FFP violations that are the problem

£100 million, allegedly.

Unfortunately, I don’t think they go down, even if they lose to NewCastle. Still, it’s a nice thought.

I think they might.

Then, Burnley and Watford

Did they win this transfer window?

I thought Dele Ali retired about 4 years ago so it was good that they managed to tempt him out of retirement
