Was about to start a new thread on this. Banksy, genius artist or like almost all graffiti artists a vandal who should be condemned not lauded?
Genius sociological commentator/activist. He shines a light on real issues in a way that’s simply incomparable. Absolutely love what he does.

I think there’s a lot more nuances than that.
Some grafitti under/on concrete monstrosities like bridges is fantastic, can bring a smileto the face, a laugh.joy or send a good/interesting message. Many are workd of art, portraits, decent forms and colour mixtures …
Really depends what it’s on and what it invokes a splodhy attention seeking name or rude word in a public toilet isn’t great for example.

He’s a genius for me,like Kopstar says,he uses his art form to highlight issues and is very thought provoking.
All forms of art are subjective but i hate it when graffiti artists are classed as vandals and being tarred with the same brush,as an idiot who has no artistic intent other than to just tag their name on a surface cos they have a marker pen/spray can.
I personally love Graffiti and have done since i was a kid but i kinda draw the line at general tagging,this is vandalism but done properly by a Graffiti artist can be amazing.Some of the greatest works of art i’ve ever seen have been sprayed on a wall,yet because it’s not painted on a canvas and hung in an art gallery,some would deem it vandalism.

“Ralf Wuz Ere” doesn’t quite carry the same weight for me.
I think we should draw a distinction between a graffiti tag and what Banksy does. I’m not convinced graffiti is the right term to be honest.
