I think if you guys had them as neighbour, you would understand  They are…proud… and they get insulted quite easily.
And they are not above turning such “perceived insults” into geopolitics sadly. It is just not worth it…

When you live next to them, you don’t want to provoke a negative reaction. It is also in our interests to let people from Finmark and Russians over the border mingle freely and not give them an excuse to withdraw the free Visa zone we have there (people from finnmark and Murmansk can cross the border relatively freely, unlike other Norwegians).
Might seem silly though and I guess it is. But even so.

According to the Eirik Raudes Saga and the Saga of the Greenlanders, Leiv Erikson founded two settlements in Vinland in 986 AD. Others may have been founded later. They lasted for some years, but problems arose with the natives and the settlements were later abandoned after only some years and open warfare broke out with the Skrælings.
Perhaps the saga timing is wrong. But Leiv Erikson died before 1025. He is believed to have died in 1020.

This is kind of news, yet it is strange news so it belongs here in my opinion.

I won’t bother to translate this Norwegian article, you can translate yourself if you want. The gist is, a police school in Columbia had a cultural exchange with Germany. They wanted to celebrate Germany. The arrangement went…awry. Their principal is now sacked. By scrolling down on the article and looking a bit closely at the pictures, maybe you will understand why without any translation at all ? :upside_down_face:

Edit: I am curious how an adult with a working brain and some minor education can think this show was a good idea. Just very curious. How does such brains work ? Are there actual holes in them ? Too much cocaine administered to basically every teacher and student at the same time ?
