Even the dogs slept through / ignored the commotion?!
If they can sleep through rampaging bears, they can sleep through howling dogs too.
I hope they come up with a better design, I mean who buys practical ugly things anymore?
Karius is not alone …
Strongly recommend this
That’s an interesting, informative piece. Sad that she generalised it to young people as, even though her predicament was with young people, this is seen accross age groups. We even see it on here (though not to such a hateful and selfish degree).
It really isn’t anything new but social media has changed the don and made it so much more toxic from whatI can gather. (I don’t use social media to any significant degree so am not versed enough other than to acknowledge what I hear about it).
It’s a good warning, a life lesson. It really is difficult to trust people and open up honestly and helpfully.
Good read and excellent points. Twitter and social media has its use but I honestly believe it’s relieving people of their common sense. It’s so absolutely easy to fabricate and create fake news and narratives as well as baseless accusations that it’s hard to see an end to all the bullshit.
The sheer speed of technological advance in the past two decades, from suddenly everyone having a mobile to then being able to connect with anyone pretty much anywhere at anytime with a few presses of a button to being able to publish your views that are accessible worldwide with also just a few clicks, has overtaken the emotional and rational development of mankind and its all become rather toxic as well as incessantly sanctimonious at the same time. Hate speech fills everything while at the same time you have to watch absolutely everything you say for fear of being vilified as being contrary to whatever the flavor of the day is.
I’d ban and dismantle the lot of it to be completely honest with you. It’s an intangible that might never be quantified with an actual human cost that may never be known but I am absolutely convinced that people have lost their lives or property or suffered because of a thoughtless (or deliberate) inflammatory post on a social media platform.
On a note rather concerning LFC and a recently departed figure and his comments, I found this snippet of that read rather interesting:
'She also suggests that there is some dark, shadowy ‘more’ to tell that she won’t tell, with an undertone of “if only you knew the whole story.”
It is a manipulative way of lying. By suggesting there is ‘more’ when you know very well that there isn’t, you do sufficient reputational damage while also being able to plead deniability. Innuendo without fact is immoral.’
Probably that is the post of the year so far.
I only recently was made aware that there are actually companies that the media and individuals will turn to and pay to trawl through every social media post an individual has ever made in order to find something/anything that can be “exposed.” Does anybody know how the media companies monetise this information?
The recently “outed” England cricketer is a case in point. It is not “outraged” or “offended” individuals that were seeking his public shaming - it is media companies employing other companies to “dig the dirt.” The agenda is to expose anyone who steps into the media spotlight. Apparently, it is quite a lucrative business. Imagine explaining to your kids what you do for a living.
You often hear the phrase - “what you say should have consequences”. Yes, it should, but it should go both ways. You want to out someone for a tweet made 10 years ago - fine - but your name has got to be displayed in the article for all to see. And then the dirt-digging can begin on you. “Casting the first stone” etc
I posted recently that for young people the stress and anxiety that this Salem witch hunt causes must be overwhelming. Constantly scared of saying or doing the wrong thing. Forever anxious that they are the next to be eliminated from the tribe. No way back, no forgiveness. Outcast. There is a very real and tangible human cost.
I was chatting with somebody the other day about this very thing. Their advice was - “Do not engage under any circumstances with those peddaling the woke doctrine” - there is no point - it is futile and akin to asking a fundamentalist to convert to atheism. Or reasoning with a toddler. Advice I will certainly be taking.
I am not overly concerned though, I have cause for optimism, - this will pass - scientific facts are scientific facts - the truth is the truth. And the truth will out. There are already strong signs that the adults are returning to the conversation.
I’m having a real problem with this ‘woke’ word.
I always understood it as meaning being aware but this seems to have radically changed over the years. It wasn’t much of a thing in my days in England and there really isn’t an equivalent in French (at least not to the social extent in the anglo-saxon world).
So I ask what are the definitions of ‘woke’ for the posters on here?
My Dad a torygraph reader has started complaining about ‘woke’ and I asked him what he defined ‘woke’ as as in the form he uses it his sentences don’t make any sense to me. He couldn’t give me one which made the coversation even more difficult (he essentially implied it was annoying people pushing annoying agendas).???
So I would be very grateful for any enlightment on the changing sense of this word. (Seems like a right wing smear on what was a perfectly decent word in the past).
Leave the bird feeders alone, Mr Squirrel!
Got a bit of Ghost in the Shell vibe!
