Lionel Messi- where next?

So would you have Alisson in your all time XI then?

Over Casillas? I’d have many. Buffon is the obvious one to start with though.

Yeah, Casillas doesn’t cut it for me.

The thing is that when Iker made the breakthrough so young sort of my generation (me included) got crazy about him. He was really likeable. But realistically, he’s not even the clear choice of his generation, let alone something bigger.

Neuer is the best I’ve seen in my following.

Interesting.

I’d put Buffon and Casillas as the main 2.

Who else is there in terms of longevity and accolades?

Any all time XI which doesn’t have Lev Yashin as the first name on the team sheet is wrong.

In my opinion, of course.

Neuer and Cech were better than Casillas IMO.

Goalkeepers will always be the hardest to pick not only because it’s 1 position but because keepers have a restricted area of the pitch which to operate as to outfield players.

I’m sure if you took a few surveys of 100 people or so, 10% would have Buffon, 10% would have Casillas, 10% would have someone like Dida, 10% for Barthez and so on.

Whereas your defenders midfielders forwards 9 times out of 10 you’ll usually see the same names crop up.

If we are talking keepers then this guy was right up there.

Opposing forwards who incurred his displeasure would be picked up and thrown bodily into his goal.

This is why you can’t pick Pele or Maradona for the best player ever, they were far more protected from goalkeepers throwing them in the net in their day. The game had gone soft.

Neuer I could accept, Certainly not Cech…Thought he was mostly terrible, head injury certainly played a part in that.

Legend has it that our own George Allan incurred Fatty’s wrath one day…

Casillias is the Paco Gento of his generation. To play in a team that successful for that long you have to be a really good player, but the medals he won warps the perception of how good he was. I dont think even most of those in Madrid would have ever rated him as the best keeper in the world at any point in his career. He was just their keeper and that was good enough.

See Neville, G.

‘Fatty’ Foulke: “I don’t mind what they call me as long as they don’t call me late for my lunch.”

These were the times…

Neville Southall’s idol… :0)

What do you mean legend has it? Surely you were around for that?

Ray Clemence and Neville Southall two better goalkeepers, Peter Shilton in his prime oh and nobody would have Barthez as the best keeper ever, never mind 10%, not even his granny would.

All The Allmighty Reds did was pick 11good players. That team would get battered. No midfield really.

Sorry forgot Gordon Banks.

‘Pele good
Maradona better
George Best’
