In pre-season, you expect the guys to be cooked. It means that they work very hard during the training sessions.
The only moment it will matter to be fit throughout the 100 minutes is at the start of the season against Newcastle.

I like him but he is a false security blanket. this notion that he can be an emergency CB needs to end. the most time he will get is maybe in cup games

I’m sure this is the short to medium term plan, but I think the best thing we can do right now is improve the first team as much as possible through recruitment, and once those players are in place look to raise our quality in depth.
At the moment we’re thin in a lot of areas and just selling players because they’re not good enough to be regular starters means potentially leaving ourselves short in numbers.

In preseason I usually focus on the 1hf.
Then the final game of the preseason.
Everything else is gravy…

i agree. but this is exactly what i mean by false security. we might have the numbers but the quality is just not there. better to sell and get a younger cheaper player who can add actual quality to the squad. ultimately quality depth is what wins the Pl

I just don’t think we have the bandwidth at this stage of the summer to bring in that many others beyond the ones we know about (Barcola, Mbaye). We can’t get everything we need done all in one window, it’s going to take a few probably (including Jan windows).

Yeah its pre season so not much to take from it. But maybe a little disappointing that over 4 games its really only been Trey who has made a big claim to get more of a role than he had last year. That includes a few senior players, not just the kids. Koumas is keen and maybe he’ll get rewarded for that.

I think he is a better player than Chiesa. With the current HG situation, maybe Iraola could keep him around.
