Liverpool FC - Pre-season (Part 2)

The second string that was on for the most part in the second half looked desperate to all ways. Rio was playing for himself and Trey became more and more conservative as the half went on. Eliot looked out of sync and Muñoz ended up being peripheral as the cohesion fell apart.

Going forward, I think we will be able to start well enough but as we move towards the last quarter and subs start to come in we may find ourselves in a bit of a chocolate box situation, i.e. you’re never sure what you’ll get. Hopefully as the coaching staff continue to shape the playing style with the squad, we will see a playing identity form and the subs become less of a gamble.

Just about summed it up there.

A good 45 and a really poor one, Endo, Elliott, McConnell and Chiesa offer very little and need moving on.

Really disappointed when Ndukwe never came out for the second half.

Not really..

Probably would’ve been better if VVD had pushed up a bit earlier to slow down the attacker and allow others to recover the defensive positions

Isnt that what Grav and Dom are?

I suspect that Macca will be crucial to the process of managing the defensive transitions from the territorial press to the man oriented press…

ryan is def not that, not for this system. this system will actually free ryan to be slightly forward in front of the hardworking and hard running dm. ryan would recycle the ball and move it forward and so would dom

Mamardashvili ain’t good enough.

this comes back to our discussion about your boy wharton, i would put a worker next to him and let him recycle and kill the opposition with his passes. the dm would do all the running for him

But where does Wirtz play if they both play and a DM?

So I guess you see Grav as an 8 whose job is to keep things moving and break forward with the ball (bit like for the goal)? I also think that that is his skillset rather than being a DM.

I´d do the same. Basically Alonso and Mascherano kinda deal.

Passing player and a worker. Fab and Thiago. I think Nyoni has good defensive instincts though so I think he could be that defensive player. Not sure if he´s quite so high energy though.

He is unfortunately starting to look a bit like Mignolet to Ali’s Reina…

i think that is the difference with the AI system, agility and stamina and hardwork is important for his DM. Nyoni is nice but like you said, probably lacks the stamina and agility needed. i think we will sign a dm. I dont think we currently have one who suits AI’s system. just my opinion

i have no idea where wirtz goes to be honest if we sign a pure dm. that would be a question for football guys like @Sweeting and @Sportbilly1966

Could be the case. My worry would be a physical DM and Szobo or Grab would leave us very limited on the ball still.

Watched the second half. Absolutely brutal. Reminder never to buy a ticket for a pre-season game

Buy the ticket, just make sure to leave at HT

kinda like gini, hendo and fab… in that case you play dom and a dm or ryan or nyoni and then you have wirtz just ahead. i dont mind wirtz on the left. played really well coming inside from the left for germany
