Liverpool Youth Teams Thread

It is a pointless rule, but it is the rule. The club has complained along with other Premier League teams.

U18s games are exempt from the rule, I have since learned, but U23s are banned from broadcast if they clash with PL games.

Anyone know what happened to plays like Jack Walls that we released or let go. Says he doesn’t have a club but surely he must be in non league somewhere but not updated. Interested to see the post Liverpool careers of our less know academy players.

Luis Longstaff rumoured to be spending the season with Queens Park FC in Scotland.

Jake Cain has sealed a season-long loan switch to League Two club Newport County.

The Liverpool midfielder, who made his first-team debut last February and has trained regularly with Jürgen Klopp’s squad, joins the Welsh side for the rest of 2021-22.

Cain has progressed through the Reds’ youth ranks since arriving at the Academy as a nine-year-old and was part of the team that lifted the FA Youth Cup in 2019.

Having represented the seniors against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup, he signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool in July 2020.

Liverpool U21s vs Rochdale

Davies
Wilson Clayton Koumetio Chambers
Dixon-Bonner Ritaccio Morton
Bearne O’Rourke Woltman

Subs: Kelly; Miles, Stephenson, McConnell, Musialowski

Still no involvement for Morgan Boyes, Tony Gallacher or Luis Longstaff. Presumably the club is still working on getting them out on loan.

No, we’ve played six games but haven’t won one yet (we basically never play our strongest available team in fairness).

Congratulations to the genius in the scheduling room who decided these games should be played on deadline day during an international break.

Is there any way we could watch this match?

Musialowski has come on for the injured O’Rourke - the combination of Woltman, Musialowski and Bearne has been quick and direct nearly getting in quite a few times now.

Edit: Woltman did get in, Chambers broke through midfield and slipped it through, good save by the keeper.

1-0 Rochdale

Slightly against the run of play. Liam Kelly whips one into the top corner from 25 yards. Great goal by the former Reading and Feyenoord midfielder.

Thanks!

2-0 Penalty to Rochdale. Could see it coming a mile off, O’Keefe given a lot to do down the right and Chambers closed on him quick. O’Keefe took to opportunity to go down.

On replay it looks a clear dive, Chambers didn’t actually make a challenge while O’Keefe jumped up and grabbed an arm around Chambers neck to pull the Liverpool defender to the ground with him. Ref got conned.

3-0 now, O’Keefe drove at Chambers and was just too quick and strong for the 17 year old. Then he blasted it into the far post from around 18 yards out.

Liverpool have been poor in the second half after a good opening 35 minutes.

4-0 Josh Andrews

Liverpool pouring men forward and caught on the counter attack. Koumetio did his best to cover the runner but without any help it was always going to be tough.

Looks like fatigue setting in on Liverpool now.

Scheduling the game for deadline day and during an international window meant we never had a chance in this game. Add in the older players/better prospects and it would have been a bit more interesting for the result.

Liverpool played well up until the opening goal but that looked to take the wind out of the sails before half time. Then right after the break Rochdale get a penalty from a clear bit of cheating and the game is effectively over.

The players should all learn lessons from the game. At the very least it offers a learning experience but as with any education its up to those players to take the lessons and apply them in future.

Rochdale 4-0 Liverpool U21s

A good opening 35 minutes but the Reds struggled to pick themselves up after Liam Kelly smacked in a worldie against the run of play. O’Keeffe bought himself a penalty early in the second half to make it 2-0 and from there Rochdale just hit Liverpool on the break repeatedly.

Fair play to the youngsters for keeping going forwards but there was a lack of threat. Bearne, Woltman and Musialowski (who has hardly played in pre-season) all tired early in the 2nd half. Lots of tidy passing around the box but found it hard to get into goal scoring positions.

Do we learn much from these games. Looking at the record doesn’t seem so but you would think playing against a good men’s team would do some good. I just feel usually we get a fair old beating and seems to knock confidence more than inspire the lads to get better.

They’ll be fine. Either you take the lessons and improve your game or you cry about it and fail to make it as a professional.

They spend most of their life at the academy whooping some unfortunate youth team - if getting a pasting three times a year from an adult team is enough to destroy their confidence then this isn’t the career for them ultimately.

Samed Yesil (DJK St. Tonis) and Dani Pacheco (Aris Limassol) these two were so hyped…

Just looking at Mabayas Instagram page. Only shows his highlights from England and his Nike sponsorship. Does not have a Liverpool one. Still has posts from Liverpool but could he be leaving? Heard he’s not impressed with being at right full. Has he played this season yet?
