To be fair im not sure what is in the rules regarding refusing City a place in the football league. If City are given a points deduction that sends them down they cant refuse. If City get expelled they dont.

Iâm not happy with points deductions alone because who does that benefit most - Arsenal! They werenât the club most wronged by City but may benefit more than anyone from the punishments. Strip titles and award them to the clubs that rightly should have won them.
The fines alone could amount of billions once you have factored in private lawsuits. Most top flight players and especially managers are paid salaries but also considerable bonuses according to their results and trophies won. If you are a player denied a significant CL or other trophy run by Cityâs cheating, you could claim you lost specific amounts of money and demand compensation. In the case of a PL title yhat could run into millions for some players and managers.

The problem is when clubs got relegated because of City as well.
I do think Cityâs need to have their titles vacated. But that leads to another problem with the relegated clubs etc.
Going to be really interesting this. On the one hand the PL have put a huge amount of time, resource and money into this and so anything but throwing the book at them makes it look like it wasnât worth it and no doubt sees other clubs rightfully up in arms.
But at the same time theyâre damaging their own product if City go down and stay down for a number of seasons. Theyâre a big international draw these days. Theyâve a squad full of stars and for better or worse the league is a more appealing watch with them in it.
Canât help but think theyâll end up with a big fine, maybe a transfer ban or reduced SCR figure for a couple seasons and some form of points deduction that makes it almost impossible to get into Europe but unlikely they get relegated. Titles will stay theirs and no asterisk either because thatâs a permanent stain on the league.
And all that will only happen after they appeal whatever punishment is handed down initially and thatâll take another year or two to settle.

The explicit options available to the Premier League are grouped into major categories:
- Sporting Penalties
- Points Deductions: This can be a deduction of points scored or to be scored in the future. Crucially, the rule allows points deductions to be applied retrospectively to previous seasons, which legally opens the door for a club to be stripped of past Premier League titles and trophies.
- Expulsion from the League: The commission can officially recommend that the Premier League board expels the club from membership. This would force the team out of the top flight completely, requiring them to try and rebuild from the lower leagues of the English pyramid.
- Match Suspensions & Replays: The panel can suspend a club from playing in any league matches for a defined period or recommend that specific previously played matches be entirely replayed.
- Operational & Roster Restrictions
- Player Registration Bans: The league can cancel or refuse the future registration of new players, essentially forcing a transfer ban on the club
- Conditional Punishments: Sanctions can be made contingent or suspended. For example, a club might face a massive points deduction that is only triggered if they fail to meet specific financial targets or actions within a fixed timeframe.
- Financial Penalties
- Unlimited Compensation: The panel can order a club to pay an unlimited amount of financial compensation to any person or other club affected by their breaches.
- Fines and Costs: The commission can levy unlimited financial fines and order the guilty club to pay all administrative and legal costs associated with the investigation.
- The âCatch-Allâ Clause
Under Rule W.51.7, the handbook concludes with a sweeping power that allows the panel to âmake such other order as it thinks fit.â This single line means that if a case is of unprecedented scale, the panel does not have to stick to a pre-written list; they can design a bespoke punishment tailored specifically to the severity of the offense.

Itâs a PL board though itâs still the PL. they can ban them from the PL say for a number of seasons. And then they will fall foul of Football League regulations I would suspect, the only way of avoiding that is getting back up. A running minus points that pauses every season there in the league will eventually do damage you would feel. The first ones back up could compete but that will start to erode if that stayed in place.
I do think the titles should be stripped, I wouldnât care about whether they are given to anyone or left blank. Maybe felt different without Kloppâs and Slotâs.
Shame the CL gets to stay next to their name.

If City doesnât get stripped of any of their titles, itâll effectively render any punishment an insufficient deterrent, as the benefits they gained from cheating so brazenly will heavily outweigh any short term punishment theyâll face. Even a relegation to the Championship for a season wonât sufficiently deter future misconduct. Only stripping titles can do that.

What gets me is the sheer arrogance and cowardice of knowing you cheated and not admitting it - even after you are caught.
For City read Ben Johnson, Lance Armstrong and every other athletics cheat who has been caught and claimed they kissed someone with cocaine in a nightclub or got massaged with contaminated hands. Or every murderer who got caught and pleaded not guilty. Or knowing tax cheats who blame their accountant.
All of you grow a pair and admit it. Be better.

Now take your medicine. No appeals, no plea bargains.
For me take away the titles. If itâs easier to leave them blank in history than give them to others then okay. Relegation? No way. I say give them a 25-30 point deduction every year for the next 5 years.
Oh and what about the fit and proper owners test? Do you need any more proof they are not fit and proper? Make them sell.

Thats not expelling them from the Football league thats expelling them from the Premier league. In this instance like i said earlier the Football league donât have to admit them in.

Sorry, City by cheating did steal it from us.
We didnât do as well as we could have. But had City not gotten the points they got by cheating, We would have won that title.

That opens up a whole new cat of worms. As to the side which were denied european qualifications , the sides who got relegated etc. Very messy to sort out. Iâll rather City just be stripped of their titles. Leave the titles for those years blank and then move on from there.
The other clubs can exact their pound of flesh with their own legal teams if they want to.
Strip them of the titles, Expel them permanently from the league, Let the other clubs make their own cases.
