The irony being this is the style of football that won us the league, we moved from heavy metal gegenpressing to a similar “suffocating” possession based game.
There is at least a bit of Pep’s Barca and of the general Spanish dominance (Spanish national team also) in every team of today, regardless of it’s style and principles. Of course that there were influences before that, but that was arguably one of the best end products in football history.
Even Burnley, who are lazily described as only parking the bus (which they also do a lot of the time of course), when in the phase when the opposition starts from the goal kick, they press high and compact (a bit like a poor man’s Atletico).
Have a look at a random (but top level) game from the 00’s (even late to end) and compare with the last few years. It’s totally different, you only need a few seconds to see the change in how teams take care of the ball, how they act without it, rely much less on just luck, but believe more in each other, doing more and more things together, etc.
They were both the best and the most influential teams.

You have to start wondering about the path Foden is taking due to his past issues with both England (Iceland) and City (recently dropped due to behaviour), and friendship with Greenwood. The guy is going to have a microscope on him for a while.

When you read the reporting on the Kobe Bryant hotel room incident from years ago the most depraved part of it was Kobe seemingly having no inclination he might actually be in trouble because the expectation, passed down to him by more experienced players, was that there was a play book to follow to not get in trouble for this sort of shit. He seemed more concerned that these older guys were going give him shit for fucking up the process than he was by his serious legal jeopardy.
