Iām not aware of us ever breaking the record for the most expensive player but the problem is, the 30m most clubs in the PL can spend is astronomically small compared to the 100m that Man City can just pluck from their accounts to spend.

I remember that time in the seventies that we spent so much money it was found to be in breach of financial fair play regulations, and it was only employing an army of lawyers that we were able to get away with it on a technicality.

Itās well documented that in 1912 LFC paid Lytham St Annes Wanderers 3 pound 9 shillings and sixpence, plus 3 tins of dubbing and 5 pairs of bootlaces for Cedric āGabbyā Galbraith. When the going rate for an inside mid left fullback was nowhere near that. Thus sparking the transfer fee escalation problem that has lead us to where we are today. Pep knows.
