Michael Car-wreck's at the wheel! It's the Manchester Untied thread

He’s also reported to have walked up to the captain of the women’s team and asked her what her job was at the club

The Athletic had an interesting take on Jim’s past business success, saying INEOS made its fortune turning around under performing business, but Jim’s role was in the analytics not operations side. He identified the opportunities and what areas were underperforming, but then got out of the way to allow his handpicked management team to implement the turn around. They dont directly connect the dots, but the implication is obvious - that is not what he’s done at Utd. It’s almost like in his retirement he’s wanted to have a bit of fun by finally getting into the operations, or maybe in his advanced age he has convinced himself of the story that he was always the hero of these prior successes so is now the right man to turn around Utd. That model at Utd would have been to insert Braislford and/or Ashworth and then get out of the way, but instead he couldnt help but interfere. He now seems to have a management team chosen by their willingness to work with him and let him interfere more than because of their expertise.

The line in that Guardian article @CanuckoLFC posted a few days ago that really jumped out at me was this one

Berrada was poached from Manchester City on the basis of his ability to grow commercial revenue (yes, OK, stop laughing), and appears, like everyone else with any actual reach around here, to exist in a strangely consequence-free bubble.

It had not actually dawned on me what they had done.

The reason they didnt buy the new left back this summer was Berrada told them he just needed to call Etihad Airways and the 100m would magically appear and for some reason they werent returning his call.

Surely Scotty Parker deserves a go for his cardigan game? Do a triffic job on the touchline, may even mix things up with a red tie. Southgate looks more like he’s from a marks and sparks catalogue and Howe wouldn’t be in print full stop.

who bullied the FA and every EPL ref and got many a favorable decision over the years,

this is probably the reason his teams weren’t so successful in European competition as he couldn’t bully UEFA of the refs

Without opening the link: thank you Simon Stone.

Simon-paid-by-the-number-of-ManU-articles-Stone?

BBC HYS comments on ManU articles are always a 50-50 split between “Ha ha! ManU” and “How many bloody articles does it need Simon?”.

Diehard fans , this rudderless United is the best player of his talent could have done while getting handsomely paid with no real pressure so to speak of .

No actual Big Club competing at the highest Stage would have tolerated Bruno for so long had they actually made the mistake of signing him in first place he would have been quitely relegated to bench or sold by them long ago .

Some belated realization coming there at redcafe

I think we’ve all read the next chapter. Utd coming in to a tricky game home to Bournemouth with the manager under pressure. They struggle, but with the introduction in the second half of some young academy grads (Lacey, maybe one of the Fletcher kids) they turn the game around and earn a vital win. The manager eases the immediate pressure by demonstrating how connected to the club’s DNA he is by rebirthing the Class of 92. The fans start to believe again. Rio does something dumb to demonstrate his support for the manager.

Next chapter - the kids are actually shit but he cannot afford to not play them because that was the only thing allowing him to hang on to his job.
