Kabak’s recovery is better it’s kind of like comparing him to Williams, he would get caught out and then go to ground effectively leaving us exposed, Kabak gets back at them, what he needs to do more than not is get back on his right side.
Anyhow if I’m honest I feel we need to continue with Fabinho back there sadly until the end of the season.
We should consider ourselves fortunate that he didn’t leave the club in the Summer. He wasn’t great yesterday but overall he’s done well. Obviously a very limited player but he knows it and doesn’t try to do anything out of his comfort zone. His positioning is generally good which makes up for his obvious lack of pace and I like his aggression.
I had more problems with Nat’s reactions when they had their goal ruled out than Kabak to be honest. We’re really not holding the line well and it’s no surprise really. I think last night is the first time that Kabak has tried to play offside like we usually do. Nat had some good challenges in the air (though goes so aggressively that he ends up on his arse on the ground) and on the floor, but yeah… the contrast of quality needed to play here is so obvious. Maybe not risk too much with being too aggressive, especially in small spaces, when you know you’re not agile or fast. Every step he takes looks like an opportunity for 3 nutmegs.
If you play 3 at the back Phillips can’t be on the sides, he has to be in the centre like last night. It might suit Davies though if he’s actually a real person.
Ive always said that if you have a thug of a forward like McBurnie or a forward built like a brick shithouse like Antonio - then Phillips will be fine as he loves the battle. He loves winning headers.
Put him up against a tricky or fast player and hes out of his depth and looks every inch the Championship player he probably is.
He was dreadful today, clearly worse than Rhys Williams and yet he’s being talked about as if he was MOTM all over the place.
Cult hero to some apparently. Absolute shite these last few games if you judge him on merit. Kept losing his duels to their forward including one on the six yard line that lead to a big chance, not to mention terrible positioning and giving the ball away half the time he passed it forward.
Hes all over the place…either too deep or charging out into midfield.
Was he even good in the air today? I remember him losing loads. Their two best chances other than the goal came from crosses into him that he missed.
Short of him volleying one into our net I’m convinced he’ll keep getting acclaim for these crap performances no matter how badly he plays before leaving for a lower league side.
