Nathaniel PHILLIPS: 2021/22 (on loan at Bournemouth)

Hopes he forms a pair with Kabak now to give them a chance to play together for a while, perhaps they will surprise us.

Iā€™m dreading the idea of the two of them at CB in one of the next CL rounds. Doesnā€™t even have to be a complete team, but a top heavy attack.

More of the same for the rest of the season please Phillips.

Liked the no nonsense approach.

When we are at the bottom of the pit we can count on you to dig us deeper! :joy:

Given that Hendo is still out for a while, and that Fabinho is instrumental for our midfield as witnessed yesterday, Nat should be kept in the side alongside Kabak against Wolves. I was impressed about how the both of them combined against a team which was far from being bad. Maybe a bit tactically naive at times, but the quality was there for all to see, and yet, Fab-Nat-Kabak broke up most of their moves.

Alli was needed on one situation in the first half when our defensive system had been broken down, and we were lucky in the second half, with that header on the bar. Otherwise, Leipzig were kept at bay with consummate ease. This is a team just two points behind Bayern in their league.

I donā€™t know what people want from him. He was headed to play college football in America after failing to make the grade at Bolton. Brought here as a bit of squad cover for the U23s and somehow - through luck, circumstance and grit - has ended up starting for us in the Champions League and Premier League.

Heā€™s a League One/Championship quality player at best who, had life gone another way, would have retired from football at 23 and work in insurance now. The fact the guy is able to maximise his minimal skill set to be even partially useful to us is extraordinary and worthy of credit.

Heā€™s not really worth analysing from a performance perspective. Heā€™s probably different than nearly any Liverpool player Iā€™ve seen in that regard. Heā€™s the most emergency of emergency back ups.

Heā€™s crap, in terms of talent, but he is better than anything else we have currently.

Itā€™s a great story. Some people have obviously written him off and now canā€™t be dissuaded from that view but I bet he doesnā€™t give a fuck. I hope he gets a chance to play in front of fans at Anfield because he has all the qualities to become a crowd favourite. A real trier who is grabbing his chance and giving everything for the shirt.

Too much talk of now forming a steady partnership of Phillips and Kabak. Weā€™ve too many games, too close together, for any one partnership to play them all. Thatā€™s what happened to Henderson and Fab we played them into the ground till they broke down with injuries. Davies and/or Williams will probably have to play at least some games. I want Fab to stay in midfield if possible (but yet again canā€™t play every game). So Kabak will probably play the majority of games. Phillips should be used when his limitations wonā€™t expose us too badly, Davies and Williams covering the rest between them and for when Kabak gets rested. Iā€™m hoping that Davies turns out to have good pace (supposed to have) and some technical competency to be the perfect Yin to Phillips Yang for games when Phillips would be a bad choice.

Far too much thought. A pairing works play it, simple and easy!

I have absolutely no idea how much we can count on Davies until we even see him on the pitch. But yeah, I donā€™t think itā€™s now Phillips & Kabak at CB until the end of the season. Fabinho will still be needed there (though I hope Klopp made it clear last night that he remains a midfielder), Rhys might get more games, Hendo will hopefully also play some part this season. Still more than enough games and more than enough problems for us to still change a few times. Weā€™ll have to. Sometimes to manage minutes, sometimes to manage styles and qualities.

Then expect more injuries before the end of the season and end up using the other players anyway.

Are you sure about the highlighted bits? It seems to me that weā€™ve seen quite a lot of similar players in our teams over the years. Kyrgiakos springs to mind immediately. Klavan a more recent example. If we look back further, we had the likes of Henchoz or Skrtel. All these players were lacking pace and real talent on the ball, but making up their shortcomings with exceptional moral qualities. Even Carra could be placed into that category to be fair.

And yet, here we have another one in that ilk who performs well for us so far, but is somehow deemed hardly good enough to play in Championship/League one.

I understand that he isnā€™t the perfect fit for a high line like ours, and once our first team center-backs will come back, hopefully complemented with another top-class player during the summer, his time will be up with us. But honestly, Iā€™d be amazed if some Premier League club doesnā€™t move for him, especially as heā€™ll be free and not ask too much in wages. Crystal Palace for instance, assuming that Uncle Woy will remain in place, could be a good place for him.
